Thinking about breaking down and just getting the droid 3

People complaining about the screen, about the camera flash, sluggishness in the ui.

Yup. But if you haven't heard about those complaints *from any phone* it means the phone hasn't been released.

Honestly, can anyone point out a phone that hasn't had all manor of nits picked about it?

The D3 is a good phone. If the Bionic is released with a lot of similar characteristics, it too will be a good phone.

I can. Motorola StarTAC. That thing was flawless! :D

I broke down and ordered one online last night...it should be here by tomorrow...The only real drawback i am expecting is the 512 mb ram. No 4g LTE in Richmond, VA, and we won't have it by the end of the year so the 4g isn't a big deal to me. Also the Bionic is gonna be like a tablet, I would feel like a fool hauling that thing around. 4.3 was pushing it, but i was turned off as soon as I heard it would be 4.5. I here the droid 3's display isn't that great, anybody know if it will be more polished on the bionic?

I'm sure you'll love the D3 - I do not want a physical keyboard; I'd rather have my money spent on memory & LTE - it's just something I would never use. It looks like a nice phone and the vids on it make it look fast and smooth and the people using it like it...BUT, one glaring thing I noticed was how slow the internet was compared to LTE and since I have LTE in Pittsburgh, I will wait...and wait, and wait for the Bionic! Good Luck with your D3!

Thanks Cory. In my hometown we have lte (i think) but I use wifi when I'm at home and I don't see myself as critically needing 4g when I'm around town. The biggest factor for me was that my college doesn't have 4g. The way I see it, in 20 months 4g will be everywhere I am and the phones will be perfected by then. Then I can get my dream super phone :)

Good luck to everyone waiting for the bionic, I hope it's killer

I broke down and went to the store to get the D3 myself. I honestly could NOT get past the screen. IMO it is a serious deal breaker. One of the websites I frequent is white text on black backround, and it was absolutely terrible.

I ended up getting an Incredible 2 instead. It came down to the Inc2 or the Charge, and I couldn't see dropping double the $$ just basically to get 4G.

IF the Bionic becomes available before my 14 days are up I'll revisit it, but seriously if it has the same Pentile BS it won't be an option. People that say it's not that bad should probably get their eyes checked. :p

edit: came from an OG Droid running BB 0.6.? Froyo ROM.. screen decided that it no longer needed human input to do things.

Really, the incredible 2? I've had a chance to mess with all if the new phones Verizon has and the incredible 2 was easily the worst. Other than the size of the screen, it was literally the same phone as the original. I'd even dare to say that my rooted incredible ran better than the stock incredible 2.

The screen on the D3 may not be the best, but at least the hardware is from 2011.

i just spent some time playing with the D3 and DX2 and I honeslt ydidnt think the screen was bad at all..... in fact no worse then my Bolt screen. At times i saw pixels on my bolt screen, so i dont see what the huge fuss is about with these screen...........yes maybe if you hold it up to your nose you will notice, but really.....really?

There must be something wrong with you because those screens are the devil's spawn of the cell phone world.

not really, the screen is actually very nice...

mine just came and the mail and the phone is amazing!!!

but then again, i'm coming from a blackberry storm 2 so my opinion may not mean much

I waited for the Bionic to come out since it was announced, but after the D3 came out, and knowing that VZW would probably be charge $100 more for the Bionic than the D3, I decided to go with the D3. I'm happy I did, because I realize just how much I prefer to use the physical keyboard over typing on the screen for anything more than a few words at a time.

So, even after waiting all that time for the Bionic, the immaturity of LTE, physical keyboard and price difference between non-LTE and LTE phones were what swayed me to go with the D3. If money were no object, I'd probably get them both. :D

Say what you want about the pentile screen. The D3 is easily readable out in the sun with polarized sunglasses on and the battery lasts a good long while.

Those easily trump graininess when pixel-peeping at 6” or less in my book.

As for the Dinc2, I really liked the size/shape and the super LCD screen on it (I prefer the super LCD over the AMOLED screens) but I couldn’t get past all the reports of poor signal reception.

Seriously though, wait for the Bionic to release and compare it with *all* the phones at the store. Then pick the one that works best for you.

My bars do "show" poor reception, but oddly enough, even when I show no bars on 3G, the connection still works. On the flip side, my D1 would show 1 bar in the same places and then wouldn't work.

Same deal on the wifi. On my D1 the wifi would stay connected out in my car on the road in front of my house, but the connection would be unusable. I'd have to turn the wifi off so it'd switch over to cell data. The Inc2 again shows no bars, but the connection still works.. I also almost never go into 1x anymore on the Inc2 where the D1 would almost constantly switch back and forth.

The Inc 1 isn't in stores anymore to compare. I did "like" the charge a lot, but dropping twice the money and really only gaining 4g wasn't worth it to me. I'm still hopeful the Bionic will come out in time and I can exchange for it if it's worth it. Dual core + 1GB RAM + 4G + a good screen WOULD be worth double the price from the Inc2 to me.

Lol the wait is getting to me as well. So many of us are breaking down and getting a Droid 3. I'm almost there. If Motorola says nothing by next weekend, I'm about to just screw it all and get a D3. I can always decide to return it within 14 days anyways.
4G might not end up being a big deal to me now, but as soon as school starts back up, I might end up wanting that. We're supposed to have it by the end of Fall here in Santa Barbara, CA. And the places I'm planning on going to College at I think all have LTE already.
