Thinking about new SMS app for new Note 4.....opinions?

I actually thought that thats how it worked, so good to confirm. However, being google and who they are, you would have thought this features would have been duplicated unless there is some patent infringement. I'd beg them for a service like this, because it does seem like rough waters when it comes to MMS on Android. Maybe thats my perception, but if I want one thing to be hassle free, it would be texting. Is Google Hangouts supposed to be the iMessage copy?

Regardless, I could never go back to iOS so i've dealt with it. I know there are apps like that, such as Whats App, but everyone isn't using them, defeats the purpose, yes?

I am sure Google would love to do this but Apple was able to implement this within the default messages app so users can just text and it will use iMessage when it can... They can do this since they control all the hardware & software on all the iPhones in the world. Google makes Android but it is open-source so therefore manufactures / carriers can change things on within the OS that they don't like. Google hangouts but to have an "iMessage" guaranteed on every Android they'd have to make this off-limits so a manufacture or carrier couldn't just decide to remove it.

Also yes -- sadly the other person would have to be using Whatsapp or something like that in order to take advantage of it.

I guess go sms pro gets no love. ..

From my smokin' hot Note 4

Go SMS is good, but it seems like it is designed by Asian designers who don't have English as their first language. Some of the menus and other areas don't use proper grammar. I used to hate how when I'd send a picture message, it would say "I send you a message" before the picture. I'm liking Google Hangouts so far

I know I'll sound crazy but I use Verizon Messages+. Works well and I get messages on my phone/computer/tablet. So I can use it no matter what device I'm on. I can pick tones for each conversation within the thread. Just my two cents!

I like textra because it doesn't have a ton a needless options. It just works. I made the switch from handcent a couple months ago after my mms messages wouldn't go to certain people.

Texta is fantastic. I especially like the notifications and quick reply options. Best text app out there imo.

I've been a long time Handcent user on my S3, but thinking about switching it up and trying new app for new phone. Before you ask why, why not? ;) After reading a few threads and articles I'm choosing between Textra and EvolveSMS. Any opinions on these or other strong recommendations? Thanks!

I have used EvolveSMS for quite some time when I was on my S3 with CM11 on Sprint. I switched over to a Note 4 (stock non-rooted) to T-Mobile but unfortunately I haven't found a solution that fixes my SMS problems. I heard a while back about a messaging app based on the CM 10.2 messaging app called 8SMS. I tried it and it works, so that's what I use now.

Was loving Textra for the past year, until with a recent update they changed contact photos from squares to circles. Grrrrr. I hate the circles every other app is using. I like squares :p So I switched to ChompSMS (same dev, lots more options, but no cool "favorites" contacts like Textra).

Question to the former BlackBerry (CrackBerry) members - wasn't there a ChompSMS (or Chomp-alike) for BlackBerry way back when?

I use message + from Verizon. Works over WiFi and on my tablet like I message does. Left handcent behind

Evolve SMS is my favorite. Made from the same guy that created Talon.

I use textra. However, for some reason I'm not getting SMS or MMS with it while connected to wifi.

I have been using Verizon's Message+ too ... I do like it but sometimes I experience some lag. The message does not get sent for a few minutes at times and a few times it fails altogether.

Before Message+, I used Hangouts. On Hangouts, I used to experience a significant lag in incoming messages. Sometimes, I would not receive incoming messages for more than 30 minutes or even hours.

I think I am going to give Textra a shot.
