Thinking about upgrading from S21U to S22U this weekend. How much better is the camera is it worth i

From the reviews I seen. The s22 ultra has a slightly better camera overall. But the sound quality from the speakers on the s21 ultra are better than on the s22 ultra. So like most situations, depends on what's more important to you.

They downgraded the speakers?

I thought the 22 Ultra has better zoom lenses?

The camera hardware between the S21U and S22U are exactly the same I believe. If there are improvements, they'd all be software related.

But again, the differences are marginal, I wouldn't base a buying decision on hoping the S22U is notably better than the S21U camera, because it isn't. Might be slight improvement, but they're largely the same.

So not mind blowing IMO.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra used a Samsung S5K3J1, which is 1/3.24 inches in size, has a focal length of 9.0mm for the 3x lens and 30.6mm for the 10x lens, and a pixel size of 1.22 microns. On the other hand, the Galaxy S22 uses a Sony IMX754 lens with a 1/3.52 inch sensor size, a focal length of 7.9mm for the 3x lens and 27.2mm for the 10x lens, and a pixel size of 1.12 microns. Smaller on the S22, but from all the photos tests I have seen; better on the S22. I would guess regardless of size, a Sony sensor is going to be better than a Samsung sensor, and with updated algorithms. Also from what I have read on some reviews the new Sony sensors on the telephotos are able to read uncompressed RGB data so zooms should be (and appear to be) sharper.
I have not tested this since I no S21 to compare photos.

The telephotos shots in this review appear to be better for the S22 and especially when showing the color.

Well, then that's even more disappointing. The hardware changed but the results pretty much stayed the same.
That's not what the articles say either, though. For daytime, they note several subtle differences in the results, mostly in the S22U's favor. But for night shots: "this all seems to change at night where the newer Ultra just consistently delivers excellent shots". The upgrade is modest but real.

It's a phone guys. The update for Camera probably is not worth the cost. Day shots are minor and unless you want to take a lot of night shots might as well wait IMO

The other weekend I took my S21 Ultra, S22 Ultra and Pixel 6 Pro to a local park. Both the S21 and S22 were very close. The P6P pictures had more detail. So yes, the S22 is slightly better than the S21, but not enough IMO to warrant an upgrade. Again, IMO, the P6P still takes the best still photos. On a side note, I have GCam ported to both S21 and S22 Ultra. The GCam offered more details than the stock camera app, but still just slightly behind the P6P.

I don't feel that way.

Daytime shots - can't tell the difference.

Night shots - marginal at best.

Indoor shots of pets/kids in motion - both still bad.

Worth buying the S22U over the S21U for? No chance.

If OP has the S21U, they're not missing out on anything by not having an S22U. If they want an actual camera upgrade, then they should look into another phone or a dedicated camera.

Yeah that's what I feel. I haven't tried Gcam on the S22U, just using the stock camera, but for still images, I do agree the Pixel takes the better shots.

Pixle camera rates good. I think they even rate better then Samsung, but then again pixle concentrates on the camera not extras like 100X zoom as Samsung does. It's hard to beat apple camera also. If pictures quality is a concern and you notice fine details in pictures you should be looking at pixle and apple before Samsung. Samsung wins in the features and customization department. Just my thoughts.

We just upgraded from 21U to 22U the other day and not for camera we would hope it's the same if not a little better but we got such a good deal for trade in and accessory credit we just did it. We just thought our phones would be worth more next time we upgrade. We have the pen now it was free with credit when we got our 21's and don't use it much but with the pen inside we will use it more and I like how you can use it to take pictures. I heard the screen is nicer and brighter but now coming to the S 22 threads and reading everyone's post especially this one I am wondering if we should of done it or not. Someone mentioned speakers are worse. We mainly did it to have the latest and trade in and accessory credit was a good deal. We figured it couldn't be any worse. But we have 15 days to decide I think they told us. Phone expected on Friday so we'll see. I know this is a few weeks old but it makes me wonder now if we should of done it or not. But we mainly did it to be up to date price was good so as long as it's not worse we should be fine. Husband mentioned something about 10 x zoom I don't know much about camera features like he does. Our phones will be here tomorrow and I just realized we only paid like 800 and something for our 21's so we actually made some money which makes our total cost really cheap and a good deal. I hope we like them.
