thinking of getting hero: hows your battery life?

I can go a whole day without charging - could probably get more, but I charge mine every night just to top it off!

When I first ordered my Hero, I saw all the complaints about battery life and panicked and ordered that deal on eBay for $17 (2 batteries and wall charger from China). It was nice having 3 batteries before my phone was rooted... now I change batteries out of boredom, not out of necessity.

My battery life isn't that good at alloooo. I haven't made it to the end of my work day since I had gotten the device. I am constantly on it. I send about 100 text messages a day. I use the web and the GPS. But my battery doesn't hokd up well.

I charge overnight and as the phone is new to me, I'm a very heavy user. It usually goes for around 20hrs before it needs to be plugged in. I do use wifi, games and texting an awful lot, but only occasionally make calls with it.

The awake time is showing 19%. I suspect this will change for the better as I've only had the phone one week today and I haven't stopped messing with it yet :-)

i get about 20 hours out of mine and that's with about an hour of phone calls and constant use of chompsms and a few games lol

You might want to invest in a seidio 3500mAh battery. Sure it adds bulk, but its more than twice the battery life you're getting as 3500mAh >>>> 1500mAh. I ordered mine and receive it tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. I got a seidio innodock jr with it too.

The phone's "fun" stuff really eats away. I made it through my marathon on Sunday with GPS & Bluetooth on, but barely! I carried a spare battery just in case, I really didnt think it would hold out the whole race :)

I second that. The battery is well worth the money and the bulk.

I've had my phone for a few months now and I've noticed a couple things kill the battery: Internet and Widgets. If you have those full screen widgets on like the calendar or People it will hurt your phone's battery life. If you tend to use the phone for browsing the web it will suck your battery like nothing else. My up time is around 35% on average and I like using the browser, Last.fm and twitter through out the day. All these connect to the internet and drain your battery. I've heard there are battery life improvements in Android 1.6 and am tempted to root and jump to that but I'm waiting for the 2.1 update instead.

Coming from the Pre myself, I have to tell you I get slightly better battery life on the Hero. The trade off is that my Hero is slower than my Pre was.

For some reason, my new Hero does a lot better now with battery life for some reason. I took it off the charger this morning at 7:30 and I have put it back yet. It is 7:30 at night. Twelve hours is pretty good seeing as though I have had 6 phone conversations, sent 140 text messages, 35 emails. And have been on the internet posting for a good two hours. That's not bad on one charge. Plus I have all of my screens filled with many widgets open.

The pre has unreliable hardware! I broke 2 of them. The battery life is soooooooo bad. I had to charge my pre 3-5 times a day because of HEAVY use. With the hero I only charge 1-2 times a day, and its much more reliable all around.

Couldn't take it no more, so now I've got a Seidio 3500mAh that should be here by the end of the week hopefully. Based on alot of the reviews i've been reading, I should be good to go....I don't care about bulk at all (being a former BB user).

if evo is too much ima go for a hero

so far i see much better battery life than with my pixi
