Thinking of going from Note 8 to Pixel 2 XL

I love my Note 8...except the form factor is a little long. And I hate the curved screen. And I dont really use the pen.

Anyone gone from the Note 8 to the Pixel 2 XL? I think I would miss the lovely screen. And the headphone jack, though I rarely use it.

Anything you miss? Did the swap make you happy?

More giving this a bump as opposed to actually giving input. I don't have either device, but I don't think I will be getting a Samsung device again. Went Nexus/Pixel a couple years ago and haven't regretted it.

I've got the Note 8 too and really fancied a Pixel 2 XL since they launched but I don't think I'd bother now tbh as great a phone as it is. The Pixel 3's will be along before long and they'll probably be a big upgrade and I'd almost definitely regret not waiting.

I've never had the Note 8 but did have the 5 and 7 briefly and liked them both very much. I decided after returning my Note 7 to get the Nexus 6P and wait for the next Note or upcoming Pixel. After a few weeks, I realized how much I preferred stock Android experience. I do miss the S Pen because it was very functional for me but wasn't enough to keep me. Since then I've gone to both the Pixel XL and loved them both, and I probably will never buy anything besides Pixels now. The screen on my Pixel 2 Xl is plenty good enough for me and all my headphones are wireless.

Good input thank you! I havent seen a single rumor about the Pixel 3 yet, isnt it several months away?

I just made the switch yesterday. Obviously, I still need time with the Pixel to develop some thoughts. Immediate first impressions are that I love the speed, simplicity, and cleanness of pure Android. The form factor of the phone is also easier to handle, and I prefer the "flat" display. Things I'm likely to miss from the Note 8 include that beautiful display and the s-pen, which I love for quick notes and thoughts. So far, so good on the transition, but time will tell if those few things eat at me or are sufficiently offset by the goodness of pure Android.

Samsung makes some nice hardware but I think the look and feel their UI sucks. I like the minimalism of stock Android. If you agree with these views, the Pixel would be a good choice for you.

Pure speculation, but the 3 would release a lot closer to the end of the year. Ballpark September or October.

I went over to the Pixel 2 XL from the Note 8 with the intentions of switching back and forth. However that was a month ago and short of logging into my work email, to keep it from being deactivated, I have not touched it...LOL

Pixel just matches all my needs, it would be perfect if it had wireless charging and Samsung pay.

I use both a Note 8 and a Pixel 2 XL. The Pixel's camera is much better than the Note's. And the front facing speakers are more imersive than the Note's junky bottom firing speaker. I personally prefer every other aspect of the Note over the Pixel.

That is what is keeping me from jumping to a Pixel XL, I literally use Samssung Pay EVERYDAY, places where I know Android Pay is not accepted. Wireless charging, meh, it's nice but I could do without it if need be. I think I would miss the screen too, the screen on the Note is awesome. Yet, I can't keep from snooping around the Pixel XL forum, lol

I made the jump and a slight foray with the iPhone X. In the end the things I appreciated the most in a phone added up with me going with a Pixel 2 XL. I enjoy wireless charging but don't care enough for it to have it be a deciding factor. The camera on the Pixel is heads and shoulders above the X or Note. The OS is smoother and just feels fluid on the Pixel and to an extent the X but it felt just a touch slow on the Note and the redundancy with apps was frustrating to me. And for me the FPS wasn't as huge of a deal breaker as some made it out to be on the Note but it was difficult and awkward. These reasons for me are not significant when individual but add them all up and it was more than enough for me to switch. If you need a new toy or just don't care for the Note you won't be disappointed if you enjoy a updated and smooth stock Android experience. Hope this helps.

I had nexus 6, 6p, 5x, and pixel xl. Went back to Note 8 and will never leave the Note line ever again (had note 3 and 4 before).

For me, Note 8 is much more complete of a phone with performance that screams.

I use samsung pay daily, must have an external memory card (tons of MP3s), wireless charging pads at home and water resistance for amazing pool videos with my kids. And above all comes the spen. There is really no comparison. Note phone is a bread of its own.

Yes, pixel phones are great phones. But they are simply not for me. The money/value ratio is just lacking. Sorry pixel fans, not bashing the phone, just stating my thoughts.

The value is in its stability and guaranteed 3 years of upgrades along with consistent first mover advantage

I get that. Had many nexues before. Note 8 is stable. Not sure you can win the stability arguments, pixel phone has plenty of issues bugging them.

As for upgrades, google does 2 major OS upgrades and 3 years security updates.

Samsung does the same, you get it faster on pixel phone, no questions there. I upgrade phones every year, so the advantage pixel phone gets with faster OS upgrade is hardly worth letting go of all the things I mentioned in my previous comment.

Again, both phones are excellent. It comes down to what you see as value vs someone else. There is no right or wrong answer here.

Well that statement varies person to person. Some have issues on the XL and some have issues on the Note 8. Others are fine.

I love my Pixel 2 XL. However the Pixel 3 XL will definitely be delivered to me by Santa in December! I know Santa personally and he has assured me of this.

Dammit. I was 99.99% ready to jump from my Note 8 to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro this weekend but this thread has got me so indesisive again. The Pixel 2 XL has just dropped in price massively here in the UK and can be had for just tiny bit more than the Mate 10 Pro. Just been watching loads of YouTube reviews on both again and now I'm really torn. Camera is a big thing for me so it's edging it a little in the Pixels favour again.
