Thinking of moving from Galaxy S6....convince me!

Just gave up my note 4 after 14 months, I was worried about battery life losses and this being my first nexxie since the 4(which as we know, was HOT GAHBAGE).

THIS IS THE PERFECT PHONE. I miss my S pen a little bit, and that's where the list ends. Small things I had forgotten that I loved so much (front facing speakers for example that I haven't enjoyed since my One M8 a few years ago) such as full screen album art when the screen is locked, which are very minor and aesthetic but stuff that Samsung completely overlooks.

And as far as battery life? Forget it. I'm at best an average to mild user, I'm a heavy emailed and music streamer but low on video, and I'm getting 20 hours easy off the wall, almost 2 full days. Doze is for real. It doesn't charge as fast as my Note 4 did, but that's not a realistic expectation. And I don't miss wireless charging, fast charging, especially over the new USB type c, is wicked fast.

Don't hesitate. This was my first full retail purchase, and I'll NEVER EVER go elsewhere again. Nexus 4 Life!!!!!

IIRC, the 6P wins in every possible category except wireless charging and camera. That's my pitch. How did I do?

(I mean speakers, software, physical design, buttons, security updates, charging, battery life, approximately equal display accuracy, price, storage options, software updates, fingerprint scanner (location, accuracy, speed) - even the cameras are too close to be a point of contention).

I think the main differentiation is the software. I often obsessively fuss with every phone I come across.... walking in the mall, in big box stores, etc. And #1 and #2 in the list of 'Best Running Android Phones' happens to be the Nexus 6P and Nexus 6, respectively. Now, sure, you can go on Youtube and see that the Note 5 can launch Asphalt 8 quicker... OK.... but that's only part of it.

(Pardon the long-winded response here, but subjective opinions often do not lead to short sentences as I feel the need to explain why I've come to those conclusions.)

There's the little things, like the fluidity of the UI.. moving around windows, scrolling about... it is stuff like that, the stuff you do ALL the time, there is where the 6P really shines. There are a few people in my office that have used Samsung phones, exclusively (actually, there's a pretty substantial percentage of smartphone users that are in this boat), and they've all remarked at how well this phone runs. It's not that other phones are slow, or run badly.... it is hard to quantify really. Most people realize it the first time they pick this phone up and start using it. Everyone that has picked up mine noticed 'it'. And after a while, you get used to 'it' and when you move to a different phone, the (lack of) efficiency of movement can be glaringly obvious.

And lastly, updates. Oh, those updates. Not long ago, getting the newest version of Android was a matter of getting whatever new software gizmo came with the version bump. While that still exists today, there is a lot more at stake now. What do you think would happen if Dell said: "You will now have to wait several months (if you're lucky) to apply those critical and high priority security updates from Microsoft."... I wouldn't buy it. Nope.. no way. So why are we cool with it on with on mobile? We've been really lucky so far in that there hasn't been a widespread exploit, but I don't think that luck will hold up much longer... and when that happens, I don't want to be stuck on a year-old, vulnerable version of the operating system

--- wild tangent approaching ---

"Stock Android is boring" I've heard that a lot, especially when the subject involved a Samsung device and a Nexus or Moto. I never quite understood the statement really. Maybe I am too much of a pragmatist. Oh, I used to use Nova Prime, and fuss with the million and one settings with an OCD-like persistence, on top of a custom ROM that had the absolute most number of added features. Then one day it kind of dawned on me... "What's the point?" Does it matter really if I can resize the icons to 75% of their current size, etc.... Does it really add to my usage? Like a digital monk, casting aside worldly possessions, I went stock and just stuck to the Google Now launcher. I've reintroduced a bit of the ol' tweak back, but it's a mod that loads on top of the stock operating system with a very light touch to give me a few little bits and pieces that I might prefer. Now I spent (well, ok, waste) significantly more time using the apps on my phone and less time configuring multi-touch gestures that I most likely will never use.

It's quite liberating really... It's kind of like a driving purist who's dream ride is attacking some mountain switchbacks in a Mazda Miata... It is the experience that matters, not so much the technical wizardry that gets me there. And to me, there's nothing that can match the experience of this 6P.

Leo, you just knocked it out of the park with that statement. Your 100% dead on with every point.

Couple things though, I chose 90% icon size, OCD couldn't handle 75% lol.. And I don't get how stock is "boring" like so many people seem to think. IMO, being locked into a skin, limited and at the mercy of what already exists is boring. Repetitive features and a ton of apps/features I'll never use is boring. Being able to customize my phone so it matches exactly what I like. Knowing that every single one of us has our phones set up completely different, and will be the first to experience updates, again, nothing boring about that.

It seems so many of us Nexus users are similar people. Maybe a little quirky or a touch of OCD, simplistic and minimalist people, that definitely don't want to be told by anyone how they have to use their phone, or anything they spend their money on for that matter!

Many thanks to all who have made the effort to reply.I know that I can go on Youtube and watch tons of videos which say "this is the best or that is the best" but its the opinions of real daily users that I wanted and now have.I`m intending to purchase a 6P in the next week or two and the price is a reasonable £420(about $600)...once again, thanks,I really appreciate your help

So you're from the UK?! :) Nice to see another UK'er on here ;)

I bought mine last week from CPW and it's a stunning phone! It's that good, I sold my Nexus 6 an hour after swapping everything across to my 6P and I LOVED my Nexus 6 and didn't think I'd ever let it go!

I'm lucky as I've had all sorts of phones over the last 12months from the Nexus 5 to the iPhone 6 Plus and 6S Plus, LG G3 and G4 and now I've got the 6P and a Note 5 and can say that the 6P is deffo the best phone I've had. The Note 5 is superb, don't get me wrong, but it's NOT Vanilla Android and that's a big thing for me! I like to have the updates up to date and getting them first is such a bonus!

Plus, I can make the 6P whatever I want, with the Note 5, I still have to put up with TouchWiz (I'm not one to root my phones, not brave enough)!

I'd say if you bought the 6P, you'll never look back :)

cool, good luck and enjoy ... it's really an awesome device

I fretted for three days before meeting up with the guy to trade my Note 5 for his Nexus 6P. Aside from missing the S Pen just a tiny bit I love how fast and sleek the phone is. I haven't gotten to buy a suitable car charger or power bank yet (I work 12 hour shifts at a hospital), but from when I unplug the phone at 6am and get home at 8pm I've averaged about 60% left on the horn with generous use. That was a game changer and I'll be keeping the phone, though I despise the aluminum coloring.

yeah the aluminum makes it kinda look like an iPhone IMO. nothing a case or dbrand skin can't cover up though! car chargers and power banks aren't the easiest thing in the world to find ... if you want to go straight to the USB-C with quick charge I'm not sure they even exist. I could be wrong, and there are threads on it, but I think you'll have to find a compatible adaptor.

I didn't want to bring up the iPhone thing, haha. I'm going to deck out with dbrand in orange. I think the side skin would look better with the graphite, but I'll get over it.

cool, and I have no issue with iPhone at all. I have an iPad and my MacBook is one of my favorite tech devices ever. just that aluminum look is kinda played out and imo a little boring. problem solved with the skin, and I like the choice of orange. def come back here and post pics!

I bought the graphite... Looks like really nice .. Of course, I popped it in a case, so it's a moot point.

As for the USB-C accessories, it'll be fixed soon enough. The upcoming MWC phones from Samsung, LG, et al, will have C on a bunch.

I figure I bought the 6P for whats inside and on the screen, so the color shouldn't bug me.

I live in podunk heck, so bringing up the C at our Best Buy is like talking about unicorns. I think I can live without a car charger since the battery is so good, but I would like a power bank to toss in my ruck sack I take to work.
