Thinking of switching from HTC One to Moto X

When I got a new phone last year, the choice was always between one of these two devices. I ended up with the HTC One, and do enjoy it.

However, I've still had my eye on the X, and I think I might want to get one this summer.

So I have a couple questions:

Even though I'm in the middle of a contract with Verizon, I could still buy the Moto X for full price and add it to my line, while removing the One. Is this correct?

And I'm thinking of buying a used one through swappa or something like that rather than a new one. Customization really isn't that important to me. Thoughts on this?

I know they go on sale from time to time, and I'd guess there could be a price drop once the X+1 comes out, so waiting for that might not be a bad idea.

Just kicking around some thoughts, and any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Why would you want to that. You love the One keep it if you no issues with the phone.

Moto X+1 is coming soon so better hold out for that before taking a decision.

Don't remember saying I "loved" the One. :-)

It's a good phone, does its job, but the flaws are starting to show. And if I can afford to switch to a new phone at a reasonable price, then why not?

Oh my bad :|

Well in that case go ahead with the X its a great phone and will be for atleast 1-2 years if it gets one more major android update. I am not sure about the Verizon terms.

I have a moto x and love it. But the HTC one is a damn good phone. I see no reason to get the x if you have the one. Maybe if you had a galaxy S4or3 or malfunctioning phone, but with the x+1 comming....i say wait.

I'm not saying the One is a bad phone by any means. Buying an X would simply be a luxury purchase, something to spoil myself with.

I do have some issues with my One. The camera is developing the purple tint that many people have had issues with. It also requires a factory reset every few months for some reason. Things just lock up and that's the only fix I've found.

The One is also wildly difficult for me to hold unless it is in a case, and I don't like cases. It's slippery.

I'll probably wait until the X+1 is at least announced just to see if they have another sale on X's around then.

The Moto X is a great phone. I have used a lot of phones over the last few years and it is certainly one of my favorites. I go back to mine whenever I need a phone that is comfortable to carry around and I don't want to worry about it getting broken. It's just that kind of phone. Not to mention all the useful features. It is such an underrated phone.

You can certainly go on swappa and buy one. I use and recommend the site. Just activate it on your current line and then do what you want with your HTC One. Good luck.

Yeah, you can just buy a Moto X on the same carrier and swap it for the one that's on your line. No problem, that's what I did. The One is a great phone, but I understand wanting something else. But be warned, I was the same way. Always looking for something new. I had a couple of extra phones at one point. But after I've had the X for 4 months, the only thing I care about is when the x+1 is coming out. It's completely satisfied me. I barely read reviews on other phones now. The fancy stuff on this phone is actually useful. I don't think I could get a different phone without active notifications and the touchless controls. And I use the double shake to start the camera WAY more than I thought I would. Can't hurt to wait though. The X+1 should come out soon. You could probably score a used Moto X for even less then if you wanted to.

Get the Moto X. I agree with pdaniel219 I have had almost every smartphone out within the last 2 years and the Moto X is by far the most useful and user friendly. The active notifications and moto assist are amazing. LOVE it for when I am driving. Being able to just talk to my phone and have it read me my notifications or send a text is great for when I am in the middle of something like cooking. The X feels great in your hands naked. This is the first phone I have had no desire to buy a case for. The HTC one is like holding a slippery bar of soap. So grab a moto x somewhere and give it a try. The worst case is you don't like it (which I highly doubt) and you can sell it and make your money back.

Get one of the ones with a soft back. They are much gripper. Mostly, it's the dark colors. You can find out for sure on the Moto-maker site, where it describes the material each back us made of.

I did just that: switched from Htc One to Moto X. I bought the X locally from Craigslist. I loved the One, but was curious about the X. Here is my assessment after about 3 months on the X:

* X has better ergonomics. The One is better than many before it, but the X just edges out with the smaller size. Much easier one-handed.

* I use touchless control a lot, especially in the car. It's the biggest reason I got the X, and it largely lived up to that expectation. Can't say the same about active display.

* Battery wasn't noticeably better than the One, which was kind of let-down.

* Camera on the X is the biggest disappointment. The One takes better pictures and has the best camera app.

I can do with either one, now that the Novelty has worn off. I wouldn't call the X an upgrade from the One. They are just different phones.

You should wait for the Moto X+1 instead.

I am, but just to see what impact it might have on the X. Not really interested in X+1 unless it turns out to be very similarly priced to the current X. Plus, I've been burned way too many times by adopting mew tech/gadgets at their launch. Not again.

I'm thinking about getting a moto x as well from an HTC one. The battery and the features really intrigue me. What scares me is the camera. I am not expecting my cell phone to produce great photos but I definitely want a good camera. How much of a downgrade is the camera from the HTC to the moto x?
There are 3 things I value in a phone: simplicity, battery, and camera. I really want this phone to have a decent camera because I could see myself loving this phone.

I think you guys have to ask yourselves what about the X draws you in. The features and ergonomics are fantastic. I love this thing. I don't love the FFC construction quality, but it by no means turns me off to the device. If you're on Verizon, don't discount the MAXX either.

If you buy, I'd say but new from Moto Maker. With the X+1 around the corner, I bet another sale will come.

Yup, that's what I've heard and that's what I want.

What does FFC mean?

I could not be less interested in owning a Droid again in my lifetime.

New would be fine for the right price, but for a phone I'm only planning on using for a year or so, slightly used and more affordable is what I'm leaning towards. Even if I bought through Moto Maker, I wouldn't do much customizing so just a plain black device is all I need, and I'm seeing plenty of those out there for well over $100 less than a new one.

Normally I'm not a Droid fan either. However, the MAXX has the same software and features plus wireless charging, as the Moto X. The difference is ergonomics, and updates appear to be coming to the Moto X a bit quicker than the Droid line.

Ultimately, I picked the MotoX over the Maxx for Moto Maker and the correct assumption (so far) that it would get quick updates.

Side note, if you aren't interested in customization, maybe the Moto G is a good option for you? Granted, there's no active notifications, etc.

The thing that worries me about the moto maker is the resale value. I don't know about you, but I always sell my phone online right after I get a new one. If I want my phone in a certain color and other people don't like it, it'll drop the price.

This. :p

And about customizing your device and it's impact on resale: on swappa there's a red/maroon and black with gold accents X for sale at a fairly reasonable price, but good lord is it ugly (no offense towards anyone with this scheme, just personal preference). I have a feeling it might stay posted for some time or see a pretty significant price drop if they're looking to move it.
