Been using iPhones for a few years now. Getting bored of the iPhone 11 Pro and thinking of switching to pixel 4. Few things I need some comments on:

1. Face ID Authentication on apps. I use this almost for all apps in iphone including banking. It works flawlessly. I don’t think Face ID is available for the same apps on android. How big an issue will this be for me? May be it won’t be a big deal??

2. Mail app. I’ve used android in the past. No email app works like iOS mail app. I spent hours trying every android mail app. Hopefully outlook on android will close the gap

3. Battery life. Still debating on pixel 4 or XL. I don’t like big phones. But I heard bad stories about pixel 4’s poor batter life. How bad is it??

4. Podcasts app. Same story as mail app. Any good android podcasts app that’s comparable to apple podcasts

Main reasons for switching — sell iphone while it’s still worth the money. Getting a great deal on pixel now.
Pixel camera is still better then iphone. Plus google assistant. Siri is Not even close.

Anyone switched from iPhone 11 Pro? Comments welcome.

As far as face unlock....it's hit and miss. Many apps support it, but not all.

As far as mail....my daughter's had nothing but trouble with the stock iPhone mail app. Once I helped them switch to GMail, all issues went away. So I am not convinced that the iPhone mail app is great. Outlook app is OK...not great just OK.

The Pixel has a Google Podcast app built-in. I don't use it, but it's there.

Battery life....for me is on par with other top of the line Android phones. It lasts me from morning until I go to bed, on one charge. My kids plug in their iPhones at least twice during the day during that time mine is still on the single charge.

I think the Gmail app works great, but I only use it with my Gmail account. My wife uses the Gmail app with her non-Gmail business account, and she doesn't have any major complaints. Are there specific things you want to make sure the email app does?

As for podcast apps, many people swear by Pocket Casts.

Thanks.
I’ve Gmail, iCloud and couple of exchange accounts. For me mail app works amazing for all these account. Searching emails from 2 years ago, filtering for flagged emails across all my accounts work almost instantaneously on iOS. I do have gmail app on my iphone and never use it.

I have the iPhone 11 pro , and pixel 4xl
Apps for some banks not updated yet to work with face ID on pixel Bank of America works and Wells Fargo doesn't. Rest my apps work fine and battery life on pix 4xl very good for me with tmobile sim or Att .

How do you compare the battery life between the two. That’s one of my main concerns.

I get a day with battery on the iPhone haven't kept track of SOT but pixel 4 xl i get a day with 6.5 has to 8 ...so no concern

Spark email is the best on pixel 4.
The 4XL is a good phone. Battery life is good.
Pocketcasts is best podcast app.
Some banking apps work with face lD but many don't. There is a thread in the forums with apps that are compatible. But most will need a pin.

This is an excellent android phone.

Funny I just got a Galaxy s20 and I can't use face ID for BofA.

I use Google Play Music for podcasts, which has always worked well. It remembers where you were if you stop in the middle, and the selection is wide. Just don't know when they're going to kill it in favor of YouTube Music.:'(

Pocketcasts is the classic program for this, but I really like Podcast Addict. You can set priorities for podcasts as well as schedule updates. I thought I was having trouble with PA and tried to go back to Pocketcasts and although I used it regularly several years ago I was not happy with PC. I was very glad my problem was not actually PA.

I've also found the developer to be very responsive to questions.

OP, you have your work cut out for you but like a bad gf, it's fun!
Apple's run well but it's down hill from there if you want control and freedom.

What are you looking for? Forget the nitty gritties for a moment; you can iron those out if you throw enough time at them.
You looking for customization?
Forget Pixel, Google is trying more and more to act/look like Apple. I hate Apple but Google doesn't understand their customer base at all.

Enter the 3rd party manufacturers.
Samsung, short of rooting your phone Samsung offers the most customizable Android variants out there, in my opinion.
Many of the best customizations are built into the Samsung right out of the box or add ons from it's site.
Galaxy buds link up as soon as you put one in an ear.

Don't get me wrong, Samsung has it's issues!
Their tech support... don't even bother with it.
Double check things like chipsets for audio that are used in the device you want and make sure it has the specs you need. Example, my Note 10+ does not have the latest bluetooth chipset and will never support some of the best lossless codecs. Really? So there's things like that.

Unlike Apple hardware, Adroid hardware is not standardized and this can be good or bad. Choosing the right manufacturer and model are important... the choices can be daunting.
But you're not pigeonholed into one vision from some big sister tech company.
Androids are gorgeous bastards.

It's a steep learning curve but fun and rewarding if you like tech.
Google search is your biggest support asset.
Android... play with it!

I have a Pro Max and 2 droids right now (4XL and S20+) here are my thoughts....

Still not full support on apps but if you use a Password Manager this can mitigate to an extent. My UK banking app still does not work though.

I have never liked iOS mail, actually even on a Mac Apple do not seem to get email right. Be wary of privacy on 3rd party apps, Spark is no better/worse than others but does store your credentials on it's servers. I use Nine

I have the Pro Max so not a fare fight

Try Pocketcasts, excellent cross platform app. I use it (and Spotify) for podcasts I do not use the stock apple one.

Overall if I had to choose one I'd go with the Pixel and 2020 will potentially be the year when I ditch the iPhone for good anyway. I am waiting on iOS14 and if we get another year of 4x6 icons wrapping from the top and no customisation then I think my iPhone will be gone.

Why would you do that? FaceID works on all apps; the battery life on the iPhone 11 Pro is miles better; and mail on iPhone can also support GMail. Night mode on iPhone is on par with Night Sight on Pixel 4. The hit in battery life just isn't worth it.

The one thing i hate about the Mail app on the iPhone is the lag. i don’t know what else to call it. Sometimes i won’t know an email came in unless I refresh it,other times i get a notification and open it and nothing is there. They seriously got to fix that.

I think you'll be fine on everything but battery life. I got much better battery life on my iPhone 11 when i had it, but I couldn't stand iOS so I switched back to Android.

Androids generally get good battery life if optimized. You'll need to play with it. If it's running warm something is not set up right.
