Thinking of Switching from Note 3 to Nexus 5

You've got a custom rom, isn't it?
I've got the stock rom and I don't want to switch off most of the connections.
6 hours on screen time is impossible without let some sync on.
It's not my first Android device and I know how to configure it.

Most likely or something if i was to get 6h of on screen time the nexus 5 would of been my daily driver but i was getting no where near that. Even when taking the phone off the charger i was seeing the battery drain 1% every 3-5 mins or so or less between 1% drops and thats with no gaming and light usage. Eh more i think about it depending on unpacked 5 its either galaxy s5, note 3 or the note 4..

I'm agree with you ;-)

I have both right now, I posted the same question a while ago. Picked up a N5 on the cheap, and have been using both. I use the N5 more, but when I am on business trips, or traveling, I use my Note 3. I think I will keep both, and continue to have my cake and eat it too =)

LoL i feel you baiting sorta. Me,eliott and others on the internet has posted about the battery life in the nexus 5
So has Anandtech.

AnandTech | Google Nexus 5 Review

Just sayin. It's not just us.

I never turn down anything on my phone. I bought an external battery so I never have to do that. But I am only charging once a day.

You've got a custom rom, isn't it?
No. Completely stock. I also lose very little battery with the screen off. 1% overnight is not uncommon for me.

I suspect is is probably a rogue app, or you are on an edge 4G area and that is causing the drain. But it is definitely not normal.

I had both and I changed every single day, I finally gave my Nexus away to someone. Now That This Years Flagship Phones are about to be released, I'd personally wait and see.

Note 3 ~ 5s

I've had the Note 3 for a few months now and to be honest with you, I hate it! I hate it because the ergonomics suck, there are too many features I'm paying for I don't use. I don't think it's a bad phone, it's just not for me. It works flawlessly, but I can't get used to it, and I don't enjoy the experience. I'm very interested in the Nexus 5, a no non-sense phone that seems to do everything well at a good price point. I've heard rumors about the short lasting battery and average phone, so I'm reaching out to those who have the phone in their hands and use it everyday. I'm a power user...I use my phone for everything. Are these issues something I should be worried about? Will I be disappointed switching? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't read through the thread so sorry if something I say has already been mentioned. Anyway... I wouldn't switch from the Note 3 to the Nexus 5. In many cases it's a downgrade. The Note 3 is a phone that literally has 0 compromises in relation to others on the market. Perfect battery life, perfect screen, perfect call quality, and the camera is exceptional. Nexus 5 has poor battery life, an average camera, and has no software value adds that TouchWiz brings (S Note, plethora of camera features)

Touchwiz is the whole reason I don't want the Note 3. The fact that you cannot remove it says all that needs to be said.

Not sure who told you the Nexus 5 has poor battery life. Anandtech begs to differ. Those charts above place the Nexus 5 as above average in battery life.

As for the Camera...the Note 3 has awful lowlight performance.

Low-light Performance and Flash
Where the Note 3 really disappoints is its low-light performance. For some reason, Samsung has cut the dedicated Night mode out of the Note 3. Instead, it relies simply on the Auto mode for low-light shots.

And it’s simply not up to it. In poor lighting, photo performance is terrible. Where rivals tend to produce grainy but discerable photos of our standard low-light scene, the Note 3 shot is basically pitch black. Objects only become discernible when you’ve processed the images significantly - and they still look awful.

In two of our low-light sample shots (the wine rack and painting) you can see that the Galaxy Note 3 had some real blurring issues, whereas it was crystal clear on the Nexus 5.

In our tests, the Nexus 5 achieved better images with truer to life colors than the Note 3, whose colors appeared slightly washed out when viewed off the device. In certain situations the Note 3 can outperform the Nexus 5, but for all around performance the Nexus gets a slight edge in our testing.

By contrast, the Nexus 5 does very good lowlight.

Its nothing to right home about honestly which is why i gave up the the nexus 5 and seeing whats coming in the near future. I would of been happy with bigger mAh battery

When the screen is off, the Battery life is awesome. If I use the phone, the Battery life is poor.
That's a fact which is mentionned by a lot of people...
I'm not the only one but you're the only one who has a great battery life.

Then you have a high demand for battery life. Nothing wrong with that, but that doesn't mean nexus 5 battery life sucks. Relative to other high end phones it is above average.

The advantage of Samsung products is not the bigger battery IMO. Their advantage is a REMOVABLE battery. You can always upgrade a removable battery.

Maybe few getting lucky but i still say the battery life on the nexus 5 is horrible and people love to bait on here. My opinion tho as me have had the nex 5 twice and seeing the exact same issues in both units the phone isnt for me

It isn't luck. Anandtech did controlled tests...the hardware is obviously capable of 6 hours of web browsing. My use is consistent with that too.

Like I said, bad battery life could be due to any number of things...IMO, LTE switching or a rogue app are the most likely causes. I do not have a magic Nexus 5, and neither did Anandtech.

You don't download any apps?

Either way im cool on the nexus ive did my testing and im just not fond with it but im glad its working out for you. Ive even did a factory reset with no apps installed same issue and i get great service as well.

The same thing for me, if I use it, the battery drain very fast...
Some factory resets don't help me.
