thinking of switching from note 8 to pixel 2 xl

Great but not true 4k ;).

It will work for most people -- the difference is simply they won't touch the quality at all. What it shoots is 100% what will be there, unlimited, and free until the end of 2020. After that any new pictures won't have this same stigma and "Original" quality will take away from cloud storage.

I hear ya.

It actually doesn't even allow you to swap it on the Pixel. I assume once the end of 2020 comes it will open the option but right now it just defaults to Original and doesn't allow a change.

Right, I noticed that when I had the original pixel

So I think I'm going to order the panda 2xl and give it a shot. worst comes to worst I could send it back. still debating protection plan....first world problems lol

Are many of you also getting the protection plan? Or just utilizing the standard warranty as needed?

I ordered my Panda in Oct and opted for the extended protection plan. That was before Google extended their standard protection from 1 year to 2 years.
I could have cancelled the extended protection plan I paid for after hearing that, but I didn't.
Hopefully I wont need to use either plan

Here's what I can say.

You're definitely giving up some things moving over to the Pixel, but you also gain some in return.

If you don't use much of what the Note has, then the Pixel might be the better option since it has a better out-of-the-box camera, more consistent performance, guaranteed monthly updates for 3 years along with at least 3 major platform updates for the same period.

The 2 last points alone are why people tend to want the Pixel and that is a pretty legitimate reason. Samsung may be getting better with updates but they're still on the slower-side and can be inconsistent at times.

I finally got confirmation that my phone was delivered today only to get home and realize that it wasn't. I call Google and they tell me that the phone appears to have already been activated. my doorman tells me fedex hadn't even come to my building today and fedex alleges it was delivered... I'm tempted to just cancel the order at this point as it has become increasingly frustrating. Google agreed to send me a replacement order so I guess we will see how long this one takes or if it gets stolen

I'm really considering a Pixel XL for these very reasons. I honestly think the one and only thing I will REALLY miss is Samsung Pay if I switched. Google pay is simply not up to par with SP.

I highly recommend the Pixel 2 line - I've actually decided on the smaller Pixel 2, myself.

I have used stock Android before - on a Nexus 5. I'd say I'm not a heavy user but a moderate one at that.

However, the Pixel 2 XL has 3520 mAh and an endurance rating from GSM Arena of 88 hours - so if you're a power user, the phone should help you in that regard. Plus, the Pixel 2 line has a special battery "recognition" software: it will give you more personalized estimates of your battery time left, based on your usage patterns and habits (sorry, it's super late here and I'm tired, so I may not be making much sense lool).

In closing: yay stock Android!

Also, I am so sorry to hear about your credit card situation with regards to OnePlus. :(

pixel 2xl arrives tomorrow! Pretty excited although I'm concerned that this one will also get lost or stolen in transit. There's also QC issues with these devices and some say they feel relatively plasticky and cheap. I guess I'll be the judge...

Judging by all the reviews I still think it's a worthy contender to the note 8. I plan on keeping this one for the next two years which is one of the primary reasons why I'm looking at the pixel in the first place. With the consistent updates, I think it's one of the best phones for long term ownership.

Good luck with your delivery, hopefully this one will get to you without an issue.

I had a Note 8 and switched to the Pixel 2 XL almost a month ago. The Note 8 is a great device, there’s no denying that. ThIs is my first Pixel device (had a Nexus 5 a while back) and the Android experience found with this device has been fantastic for me, it just works. I’ve finally found a device that I expect to keep for a long time.

Great to hear as I'm concerned I won't be able to adapt to another platform (have owned Samsung phones for years.. did you go with panda or black?

I really liked the Panda but the wife strongly suggested for me to get the black. Home harmony and all, I got the black lol. Not a big deal, I always use a case anyway and either was fine with me.

Put a Panda dbrand skin on it... I mean... No, that would be bad. 🤣

Thanks! Been using the essential phone since last night and I'm really enjoying it. I think it offers an excellent value proposition for the price (less the camera which is continuously improving).

So glad you are liking it! It seems like a great phone!
