i've got a fascinate, and i've heard that verizon will swap me over to the droid x if i call and complain.

question is, should i? i understand that the droid x has a bootloader and the new version of gingerbread changes it, so rooting isn't going to work any longer, or at least until it's cracked again. i'm running 2.2 on my fascinate, so i'd probably be running the same on the droid. question is, how do people like the phone? is it full of bloatware like the fascinate? are there good roms available? how much does the bootloader prevent me from doing?

The DroidX is a fine phone. I believe that Root is available on all versions of FroYo and all versions of GB that have leaked to date.

I don't flash custom roms, but since the boot loader is locked, the process is a bit more difficult that on phones with unlocked boot loaders.

Good luck on your swap. Let us all know how it works out.

It is a VERY simple affair, Z4 Root and BAM, rooted.. Then Rom manager and install and uninstall new roms to your hearts content..

Check this out for just how simple it truly is..

My short answer: I used to have a Fascinate, now it sits on the shelf because I thought the Droid X was enough better to buy one out of contract. YMMV.

There are ROMS for it but I like stock with LPP.

Rooting DX with Froyo is as easy as downloading Z4 root then install then click root. To un-root, just click un-root.

Now with GB, as of right now, you would have to downgrade to Froyo then download the root GB files and install. It's not as easy as what I said but once you read through the steps, it's pretty easy as long as you follow the steps.

Yeah, with different firmware around I see lots of people getting stuck on rooted Xs. Just know the sbf process well, and have full system files on hand. Lots of fun to be had on a X. Rooted GB is flying right now. I heard liberty, apex, rubix and others are on the way. Lots of fun.
