Thinking of upgrading from my ole S4

I'm due for an upgrade in June. I've never had a phone larger than the S4.
I guess it'll be a nice option if I go to the Note 4.
The battery life HAS to be better than my S4.
I do have a couple of questions:
-Do you have any wifi problems? My S4 drops wifi constantly at home and is completely useless and apparantly this is a known problem with the S4 but it's not fixed.
I was wondering if anyone coming from an S4 to this Note have had any difficulties using this larger phone (with a case) or really any outstanding thoughts as you moved from that S4 to this one. I'm 6'4" man with big hands so I don't worry about that as much as keeping it in my jeans or pants pockets.
-Would you wait for the Note 5? Not sure when that'll be and if it could even be worth the wait. This phone looks like an awesome piece of tech.
Any other insights welcome.

Okay, I don't personally have one, but I would wait to see how well it plays with Android M. I say that because Android M bring native fingerprint support. That paired with Android Pay may be HUGE! Plus, I believe Android Pay will be superior to the alleged Samsung Pay. Plus, if Samsung Pay comes out and is a thing, you can expect them to really hide Android Pay in TouchWiz on the Note 5. My opinion, see how well the Note 5 goes. I almost got the G3 but I HATE overheating in phones. I waited for the G4, and the reviews indicate almost no overheating.

I had the option to wait for the Note 5, my contract just up a week or so ago, but a few things made me upgrade from my Note 3.
First, I ain't paying the silly contract prices that come with the new Note when it comes out, I bought the Note 2 sim free and the Note 3 sim free because it worked out cheaper to do so and got good deals.
Second, I'm not sure the Note 5 will have removable battery/memory, but after a long think I decided to get the Note 4 as I got it at a reasonable contract rate.
I'm sure the Note 5 will be every bit as successful as the previous Note series and if it's what I'm looking for, I may buy one sim free when the prices come down in 2016 maybe, but for now, I think the Note 4 is a beast and I'm very happy with it.

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably wait the 3 or 4 months until the Note 5 comes out so that I could compare the 2. If you like the 5, get it and avoid having phone envy in 4 months. If the 5 isn't impressive, you can still get the 4...and likely at a cheaper price than you can now.

The size shouldn't be an issue. I'm a girl, put it in my pocket all the time.

Just don't out it in your back pocket. Many broke their N2 and N3 putting it in their back pocket and sitting down. It is too big for a back pocket if you sit.

On the same carrier and with the same usage pattern, the note 4 performs consistently better than the s4 does. I still have s4 in the household, so can frequently compare.

Battery life of the note is way better.

If I was in your position right now, I go for the note 4

Buy a used Note 2 which is probably a better phone anyway and wait for the Note 5. I hate my Note 4, it is a laggy POS.

Have you tried any steps to eliminate your lag? That is a minority of owners to have such a lag you hate the phone and is usually attributed to a faulty app, service, or need for a cache partition wipe.
I have a Note4 and a Note2 and while I agree the Note2 is a great device, on the Note4 you get a bigger screen on a device that is more ergonomically hand friendly than the 2. The Note2 feels huge, the Note4 feels very big when compared to phones such as the S4.
As far as Note5, Samsung is seeing the S6 be a big success without removable battery and memory with the benefit of them making a higher profit per device sold. Cash, not user desire, is king so I'm not sold they won't put Apple like non removable battery and memory.

Tough call. If you are ready to upgrade and need a phone now then you can't go wrong with the Note 4. It is not a laggy POS. Lol. Is it perfect? No, but no phone is. Anyway, if you can wait then wait and see what the 5 has to offer. If not, then the 4 is a great phone and will last. It's really a personal choice. Hard for us to tell you what to do.

Thanks for all of these great replies. Thinking of waiting on the Note 5. This Android M thing looks promising. Although, push come to shove, I'll just drop and go with a N4. It seems to be well liked.
Anyone had any wifi drop issues? That and the battery drain are the two biggest gripes I have with my S4.

My sister, who also has an S4, is due for her upgrade and she is debating the Note 4 or to wait for the Note 5. If I had an S4, it would have been gone a long time ago. No offense, but the S4 and the HTC Rezound (which I once owned) are both battery suckers that use the power cord like an intervenes drip. I have had two phones since the Rezound (Droid Maxx and now Note 4). The Maxx had an amazing battery. The Note 4 has a good battery, but an amazing screen. That said, to make up for a good versus amazing battery, the Note has quick charge capabilities, so a short while on the charger pumps it right back up. Some people have amazing batteries with their Notes. My usage I suppose keeps the battery as good, but soooo much better than the Rezound or the S4.

Good luck with your choice. Also, I would not base your decision on the Note 5 maybe having Android M. There are phones that still don't have Lollipop. One of the M features I saw was with mobile payments. You can currently pay the same way with Google Wallet.

I had the S3 and the S4 before the Note 3 and now the Note 4. The Note 4 is definitely a great phone. The screen is amazing and was the physically best screen in the world of smartphones until the S6 came out. The multi-tasking capabilities are incredible to the point that I only use a laptop or tablet when I need to do pixel by pixel work.
That said, since the Note 5 will be out by Oct. With rumors that it will be out much sooner than Oct. my suggestion is to wait until the Note 5 is out and you can play with both the Note 4 and the Note 5 and see what "makes your day". The Note 5, if like the S6, will come with some new features that are well worth checking out before making a decision.

Interesting. I have all sorts of WIFI and battery problems, BUT the phone works. I have to reboot every now and then to get things straight, re-establish a connection. Sometimes I just loose 4G while my son is sitting next to me with 4 bars of 4G on his S5. I put in airplane mode, then back out and it finds a signal again. Some days it's fine. Other days I'll be talking to someone and it sounds horribly, scratchy. Reboot, it's fine.
Some days, I'll drain a battery by 11 oclock doing the same things I normally do. then other days, doing the same thing...it'll be like today and it's at 30% and off charge for nearly 12 hours. Weird, I never know. Just getting really frustrated with it some days.
I tried to download an app last night and it was saying the device is full. The device still has 1 GB nearly left, it's not full.
Just has some demons in it I reckon.

Hi there

I am a S4 owner who went to the Note 4 late last year and have not looked back.

The Note 4 took some getting used to and now it feels as normal in my hands as the S4 did.
My Note 4 never drops WiFi, but neither did my S4.

If you can wait until Sept/Oct then the Note 5 will be worth the wait, that said, the Note 4 is already a huge leap in every way from the S4. The best part in the Note 4 is the incredible battery life, it is worlds ahead of the S4.

As others posted I would wait for the Note 5 to come out in a few months and if you don't like it you could still get the Note 4 at a cheaper price.

I had a Note 3 and now have a Note 4 but will be buying the Note 5 when it arrives. Even if it doesn't have a removable battery or expandable storage.
