Thinking Twice About Getting the GN

It's worse than that. If someone gets their opinions from a particular phone's message board, they are going to believe the phone is a POS, because people generally only post when they are annoyed or have a problem. If 100 phones are sold and one has a problem, that one will be posting on the message board and the satisfied 99 will not.

And even the phone OWNERS can't diagnose their issues half the time. We usually have no idea what widgets or misbehaved apps people have, or whether they are trying to charge their phone using an unpowered USB hub, or whether they are trying to share their WiFi with 20 other nearby networks, or whether they put their WAP on top of their microwave, or whether their wife's "perfect" iPhone is connecting to a nearby 3G ATT tower while their "iffy" phone is trying to connect to a far off 4G Verizon tower, or whether they put their phone into their back pocket and sat on it with 250 pounds of weight, etc. etc.

If there is no rule about non-owners coming on the boards and complaining about a phone they have no experience with, there bloody well OUGHT to be. It hurts the community and turns the forum into a slap battle.

and I see nothing wrong with either of these things unless the person in question misrepresents their experience with the device

If someone is complaining about a phone and doesn't have experience with it, they ARE BY DEFINITION misrepresenting their experience with the device.

That's exactly right. No one is gonna start a thread on how well their device is working. My device actually has no problems besides my home being a dead zone which i can't blame on anyone. These forums are here to help those who have problems or questions. They are not the majority...

I had a Samsung Charge. It was ok but I went with the Maxx and couldn't be happier. No issues and the battery is second to none. I was at 60% after 12hrs with moderate use but including streaming a whole movie from Netflix at lunch. This thing is amazing. I too had to make a choice and there were just some things about Samsung that I wasn't willing to take a chance on. Call quality is so much better. I'm just really happy with the choice.

Undoubtedly. Common sense/logic dictates that.

So I'm really not looking to bicker about it, I'm just very frustrated with the situation (as evidenced by my irate post... admittedly, I could have been calmer about it), and I feel that anyone who is considering buying the phone ought to know about it. I also feel the need to defend myself a bit. You are welcome to place the blame on me. However, I will tell you that I've only been using the stock charger/cable since I got my first replacement (in order to rule out any of my other chargers/cables being the issue), and I've also managed to never break any of the usb ports on my touchpad, incredible, or eris (granted the eris uses a mini usb, not micro, but the point remains valid).

Additionally, I called Samsung after reading this article, which states "The good news if you're affected is that Samsung is aware of the problem, and has explicitly advised those affected to get in touch so they can sort the problem out.":

I was informed by their support department that it is in fact a defect that they are experiencing, and that I could send my phone in to have them repair it (probably with the same problematic part). There are also numerous others on AC forums and other forums experiencing the same issue. I agree with you that the odds of me getting 3 defective units in a row are incredibly low, but regardless, I have experienced this issue 3 times in the past 3 months with the gnex, and never once before on any other phone in the past 3ish years since starting with Android (or with any other cellphone ever before that, for that matter). I'm not an idiot, and I know how to plug my phone in without going all parkinsonsy on it and mashing the crap out of the usb port. I take great care of my electronics, and they all last me a very long time. Except for the gnex.

For the record, I have 3 Galaxy Nexus phones in my family and have never had a charging issue. We've charged it with many different types of cables and chargers and they all work fine.

.

The signal strength is definitely a sick joke. Went 2 days without any issues. Stayed on 2 bars but still had decent speed.
Completely lost signal today for about 5 minutes. Not even wifi stayed on.
I'm hoping the LATEST OTA addresses this issue.

So here it is. I have 10 days to return this device and I'll be doing just that if

a) there is no update within that time
b) update is available but doesn't fix horrible signal issues.

I really did like this device but the crap signal strength is killing me.

How was the signal on your bionic?

No kidding, I like the phone but there is no car dock and no desk dock. I am going to have a wreck using this phone. My advise is if all the associated with this phone screwed up this bad, skip it. There is something better out there.

Completely agree if you are using the phone stock and nit flashing custom roms and new radios and whatnot.
