This is ridiculous Verizon!

I doubt that. They most likely won't keep making the same mistakes with their handsets. And if so I will be greatly disappointed.

Trust me, I work as a manufacturing engineer. There's always a standard deviation when it comes to failure rates and defects for any product.

The LTE's speed is amazing statement is flawed its only as fast as it is because its not as populated as HSPA+ or Wimax. Becuase its a brand new technology. The LTE network shouldn't be compared to the others until it is as populated as the others.

Verizon quotes 5-12Mbps down because that's what they expect on a fully loaded LTE network. I was told this by our (the place I work for) corporate rep. He said that they quote 5-12Mbps as if everyone on Verizon and then some were on the LTE network. If they didn't, they could easily quote 25Mbps plus.

5-12 is still faster than 4-6 by my mathematical calculations.

It wouldn't be the first time a company has fudged numbers before though. Only time can tell.

And remember, LTE is a vastly easier upgradeable system. In other words, they can add bandwidth to it and get faster speeds. Why do you think AT&T is moving to LTE? HSUPA+ has a bandwidth limit.

Thats very true. I forgot about that. Maybe T-Mobile will get LTE one day. I'm hopeful. I'm not saying LTE isn't great i'm just saying it hasn't really been put through it's paces yet.

I highly doubt Verizon would want to fudge those numbers. Verizon is spending a very LARGE sum of money to upgrade their network and since that is the case, I'm sure they probably have some pretty good case studies and forecasts. Of course nothing is 100% until the situation actually occurs, but I don't think Verizon would purposely mislead when it comes to something like that.

You have some good points. And this is a hot thread already?

T-Mobile would need to turn things around. They have been bleeding money left and right and for them to invest into an LTE network would require way more capital than they have. Guess that's why AT&T feels that they could buy T-Mob (and add that extra spectrum T-Mobile owns to their wireless network portfolio). Who knows how that turns out and what that will do to the US wireless consumer market...

This is obvious, and i know your OP is not actually a question its just a complaint of some kind, but i'll respond bc i have nothing better to do right now:

verizon is the best carrier, with the best service, and now the fastest 4g available, so they don't have to get these brand new phones to entice customers to come to verizon. Their network does that for them.

And in a month won't the bionic be out? Half the phones in your op arent available yet in the US.

Also, since there are new and better phones coming out every 3-6 months, all the phones you have listed will be second tier phones after a short while. That's the nature of the beast.

If you love those phones so much, switch carriers.

It was an indirect question. And switching carriers would be pointless as I will be getting T-Mobile. Though about your argument that that the phones I listed will be second tier in a few months. Doesn't that mean current Verizon phones will be 3rd or 4th tier in a few months?

Verizon could request manufacturers to make phones for them. I'm pretty sure HTC for instance didn't just start develpoint AT&T and T-Mobile phones out fo the blue.

How are you getting those speeds? I live in Orlando FL (which I assume is supposed to have a solid 4G network) and the fastest dl speeds I have been able to get off of Speedtest.net app is 16.32Mbps. The highest upload speed was 22.26Mbps.Both speeds were not even on the same test run, those were just the highest scores on the results page. The phone is pretty fast, but nowhere near the speeds everyone else seems to be getting (easily).

Edit: The wrong quote popped up on this reply.. I was replying to the fella who stated 44Mbps speeds in St. Louis.

Verizon is being outdone by every carrier at this point.

Bleeding edged phones don't exist on Verizon

What are you thinking verizon? Your being left in the dust.

You haven't been with Verizon very long have you? I'd say Verizon is closer to having "bleeding edge" phones now than I have ever seen them before (since I had my Moto Startac).

I think the OP's point is more that other carriers are getting better phones in terms of the phones themselves, nothing about network quality. The newest phones on Verizon are only viable because of their LTE radios. Other carriers have dual core phones, phones with more RAM, etc. So from that perspective, the OP is right. Verizon tends to be behind when it comes to these things. Sprint is getting the Evo 3D this month, which blows the Thunderbolt out of the water (again, not considering network).

Verizon is a great carrier, great network. But what would make them leaps and bounds above the rest would be if they released a top of line phone on their top of the line network. Right now we are getting phones that are "good enough" put onto a bullet-fast network to make up for what they lack in other specs. All I want, and I am sure others agree, is the best phone on the market on the best network in the U.S.

And don't try to bring up the Bionic. Not only is it an unknown amount of time away, but it is also made by Moto. With HTC's recent announcement of unlocked bootloaders, a top of the line HTC phone on LTE could be the greatest thing since sliced bread, especially for those of us in the modding community. >.>

they will still have faster, more reliable 4g than all those other phones.

They are getting close. Though I was more trying to say that they can and should push the edge even a little bit. I mean we are the ones who are suffering more from this. I know Tech Junkies like me make up only a margin of thier customers but as HTC has shown recently our voices are heard and matter to them. Though does Verizon feel the same was is still an unanswered question that may never be answered.

Look at where it got them with the Bionic. Bleeding edge certainly isn't always the best.

You know what, there's a small number of folks who do probably think that maybe the VZW android lineup isn't as "strong" as the other networks. But the network is solid. And yeah, they've had some 4G outages early on, the fact is that the phone side still works and if you are a little tech savvy, you can switch over to 3G or let the phone do it for you. Personally, I could put my Thunderbolt up to any of the other carrier phones and loose the spec wars, but eh, I couldn't give a crap. As long as I get my facebook and Gmail notifications, I can text, look up some dumb sh!t on my browser and youtube the crap out of anything, I'm good.
