I have 2 SSID's setup.. One for the 2Ghz channel and one for the 5Ghz channel and did not see a huge speed difference.
Just a thought...
For those WAN speeds you're paying for, there wouldn't be a whole lot of difference unless your area is saturated. The biggest difference is link speed or LAN (local network) speed and for those that have much faster WAN plans. 2.4 GHz is actually fine for most people and since it travels better I suggest most start with the 2.4 band.
If you have an AC router I would connect to the 5GHz network. In Wireless Settings tap the network you're connected to and look at the link speed. Compare it with the link speed of your 2.4 GHz band. I have seen link speeds on AC as high as 1000 Mbps or about 1Gbps. Note that throughput and link speeds are different and you will never get the theoretical number that is plastered all over the box. Also Mbps (Megabits per second) is different than MB/s or MBps (Megabytes per second). Unless you are super computer savvy and talk about different sizes of bits vs bytes; 8 bits make 1 byte.
