This tablet is advertised as a gaming tablet - is it worth the cost?

I've been umming and arring over buying this tablet for a while now. Reviews seem to be totally mixed! Some rave about it and of course the spec is phenomenal and the gaming aspect from a theoretical point of view seems fantastic. But I have also seen a lot of people complaining about problems with screen cracking, or wifi issues, tablet randomly blocking up and needing reboot... the price tag is high on this so if you own it... would you say it is worth investing the money here? Expecially given that I would also probably need to buy the controller seperately too?

Thanks!

I think it's a great tablet. Use it mostly for web browsing, email, and streaming video. I only occasionally use the gaming features but am glad I have access to them. The only other tablet I considered was the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4. That tablet has great design (thinner/lighter) but lacks the gaming chops of the Shield.

My advice would be: Don't worry about potential problems with Shield Tablet. If it has the features you want then don't hesitate to buy it. If you don't think you'll use the gaming horsepower or stylus utility then I'd look at something thinner/lighter like the Samsung product I mentioned above.

It's also worth mentioning that the Shield Tablet is running an almost stock version of Lollipop and has been fast to get updates (although that could certainly change as this product ages and Nvidia moves on to other things).

Absolutely. I am on the road a lot its like having a console with me. Plus a great tablet.

The GRID service has been a terrific bonus value as well. I think it will still be once it is no longer free but for now its all bonus.

I sold mine, the screen was OK, the battery life was livable though on the bad side. But the LTE radio is absolutely horrible.

I love it! Have owned many tablets and this one truly has been the best. Is their room for improvement, sure. Right now though, its the best in its class, and that my friend is a lonely advanced placement one. 😉

The LTE radio did suck for Tmo but for AT&T it was great whenever I used it. Could not get LTE on Tmo for some reason even though my phone which was on Tmo had full bar LTE.

Oh and if you don't care for LTE, the Asus Zenpad 8, the 4gb/64gb version is only $299. I have the Shield tablet but I'm going to buy the Asus also. Its 4:3 ratio though.
