This unlocked update situation is really looking bad

Well, what do we have here? We have to side load the "Verizon update path" to get updates because there was no update path built?

I have had many made by google phones, this has never, ever happened. This is what we get for having faith in Google to do what's right. Expecting people to know what side loading is, where to get the files, and how to do is ridiculous.

Assuming because you purchased an unlocked version? If you did and Verizon requires a different version of Android then I think that's really on you and Verizon for not purchasing a Verizon model not on Google. It's Verizon's requirements that Google has to obey by this is a Verizon restriction not Google.

If you are going to be upset about it then maybe complain to Verizon. If you ordered for the Google Store you were able to select Verizon for a reason. Either way sucks that your going through this but if you are returning the device because of this then it's on you not on Google and I'm sure someone else would be happy to get their device sooner.

I don't think this is going to be normal for this phone. Usually when a phone releases sometimes the first update takes a little bit longer and then all the months behind it fall in line. I saw this happen as well with my new phone Samsung fold and after it's been good getting the updates. I know it's frustrating but I think it's going to improve and Google usually is better at giving us the updates than any other manufacturer...

Well, I agree. Not everybody's comfortable with sideloading. I think the hardest thing is getting ADB set up on the computer for some but once done it's a breeze and one shot deal but I don't expect people to have to do it only us tech peeps around the forums haha ..but regardless you just want to do the update OTA ..I do think it will fall in line ..

While Google puts out the updates, the carriers still certify the update and can hold the update even on unlocked phones.

Doesn't Google say that pixel devices receive updates within a week and a half of update release? The update is dated "November 5". So, is it within a week and a half from THAT date?

source.android.com states the update release date is November 1. Pixel devices start receiving the update on day one. And, in general, within a week and a half all pixel devices receive the update.

You have clearly been lucky enough to not have to wait before. Just because you have never experienced this doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

It would be like me saying car accidents don't happen because I have never been in one.

You are not expected to side load the update. All that allows is for you to skip the Verizon process for the update.

I went ahead with side loading the Verizon version of the update which took about 30 minutes. Now when the Dec update comes out I'll get it on the first day. Problem solved.

I've been using the 3a XL and 4a 5G from T-Mobile for the last 2 years and now the 6 Pro from T-Mobile, and I have never had to wait for an update. They have always been available on the date they are launched. I cannot speak for other carriers.

T-mo can not hold up an update on my phone...I would pull the SIM and download than put the sim back in. What does verizon do then? Do they somehow make the phone not work?

So glad the whole East coast is ATT and T-Mo friendly. It must suck living somewhere and being stuck with Verizon.

Their FIOS on the other hand is great (Internet Only). No contract, free router, they gave me $200 for signing up and so far the price has gone down not up. Unlike cable no fees and extra charges.

I will bet that if you put another carriers sim in your phone it would all of a sudden get the updates you say are missing.

This is not on Google...this is on Verizon.
I have seen on too many forums and on too many threads were changing the sim worked.

I believe the updates are carrier specific according to the radio used on the network which is why OTA images/versions are different depending on carrier. Google sends raw updates to carriers who modify/approve them for distribution.
