Those of you that have done an RMA recently, opinions, please?

My 6P has been great for me since getting it at the beginning of December. However, ever since the May update, I've been having issues with the headphone jack, both with music play back and voice calls.

While streaming my library via Play Music, if I have the phone in my pocket and I come into contact with the top of my headset (bending down to pick something up off the floor, for example) it causes a song to either pause midway through, or trigger Google Now. Even if the Play Music app is inactive, and just in memory, a paused song will resume creepily upon slight contact.

Similarly, if I'm on a voice call, coming into contact with the headset will either mute the call, or end it all together. HIGHLY annoying, as you can expect.

This is apparently a known issue on Google Code. Though it is listed as resolved, it persists with some, myself included. I decided to take it to Google Support, and after some troubleshooting, the rep offered an RMA since I'm under warranty and have Nexus Protect.

My question is, if you've recently done an RMA, how is your replacement device? I'm aware at this point that it will be a refurbished phone, but since other than this issue my 6P has been flawless, I'm concerned about quality. Granted, this original device was manufactured on Halloween, but I'm still wary. It should be in by Monday. Shared experiences are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I should mention that this issue is not due to a faulty headset, as I have purchased a new one, and it still persists.

I had 2 bad ones before I got the one I'm satisfied with, all in a period of 3 weeks. The one they should have caught in QC as it was a couple of lines of dead pixels. Just take your time and check it out before sending your old one back - you have 21 days before they charge you for the replacement. And my instructions said to send everything back including original packing/box but all they sent me was a 6 inch a to c usb cable, so they got that back only.

This is exactly what I'm concerned about, with the process, thanks. I do plan on keeping this one until I check out the screen and battery especially, to make sure they're up to par with what I've got. I hope it pans out.

I know you didn't ask me, but thought I'd chime in. I'm not sure what my original was, but it had to be around the same time because I pre-ordered mine and it was shipped fairly quickly after it was released.

The phone in my hand now, shows 10/29/15. The other 2 phones I'm unsure of... But those 2 phones already had 6.01 installed on them, where as this one only had 6.0. Either I got a refurbished one from way back when or it really is new or like new and never used.

On one of the phones, even though it was supposed to be factory reset it had Android management software on there meant for controlling corporate accounts. I know it didn't get installed from my restore.

I hope your phone is excellent and you have nothing but great luck with it! Keep us informed.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I received the RMA replacement device on Wednesday, and can confirm that the issue I had with my original device is not present on this one. The build date is the same as my original as well.

I also took note that the most recent security patch on the phone before completing my setup was the February patch. Each time I updated the patch, I'd get the "Android is Upgrading" message. It took a while to complete, which I found a bit weird. I'm not sure if that's normal for updating older patches, but the only time I remember seeing that message is when I've rooted in the past. But I'm now updated and waiting for the July patch

The phone has otherwise been great. The first full charge managed 5 hours plus SOT, which is consistent with my original. Thus far, no complaints. Google took good care of things.

How do you find the build date?

Hi.

First, power off your phone.

Once it's off, hold down Power + Volume Down

When the screen comes on, scroll to Barcodes and select it.

One of the barcodes will have a date on it, which is the build date of your device.
