those that have the S8, anyone seeing Red?

Agreed. I've had several phones over the years that have had to be replaced for one issue or another. It can be a hassle, especially if you work everyday. But Im not spending $700+ to not be happy with the results. I'd say download the update, and if you aren't 100 percent satisfied, get another unit and don't even think twice.

That's what I'll be doing. I'm prepared to exchange it up to one more time before I look at a iPhone or something. As amazing as this phone is I really can't be bothered to keep changing it until I get one that isn't affected, who knows it could literally take 15-20 phones !

I know some are happy to compromise if they are only mildly affected by the red issue but my thinking is exactly the same as some others, I'm paying close to £800 for this device, it should be perfect out of the box. I know there will always be defective devices for various reasons but this is a widely reported issue affecting this model.

Well it's another "Catch 22"... I pre-ordered, have the red tint, called customer service, who said yes they would exchange. I need to go to a store. I called every store within a couple hours. No one has the phone. And the last guy said I needed to call the service desk. I've been on the phone with Verizon for 3 hours now. They said if I take it to a store I can get a new phone. Otherwise I will have to wait for my 14 days and get refurbished. No more pre-ordering from Verizon. Hope the update works. FYI, if you want to check your phone for sure, just switch the display type to one of the amoled displays. Mine turns bright pink. Verizon and Samsung, hope you are reading this and nip it quickly... I am a long time Verizon customer and this is my 5th Samsung smart phone. Not happy with either company. If you have not bought an s8+, wait.

Red tint on my display. Went into settings and pulled red all the way down and left blue and green at the max, though the red tint is gone, you can still notice some red along the edge of the display. Only visible at certain angles.

Compared it to a S8+ that belongs to a friend of mine who's display was more green rather than red, though he turned his green down and his was fine.

Honestly, the new one has the red borders...you can really see this when you sit outside and on a white background ..I don't know what to think..is this hardware issue or software adjustment?

Honestly it's both... a hardware issue that they will try to fix with a software adjustment. I really don't know for the ones that only have red on the borders how they can push it out without effecting the rest of the screen. If it were a even tint throughout maybe you'd never notice... a red ring effect though would bother me.

Will be interesting to read what results are after the 'Visine Patch'

I'm curious to know what tint is acceptable? For as long as I've owned Samsung devices it was acceptable for OLED screens to have a slight blue tint.

This is the first Samsung phone that has a slight red tint. It was driving me nuts until I accepted the fact that maybe the new blue is red......

Yes..that's what I was wondering...how do you fix the red borders without adjusting the entire screen...I would like to know what is exactly causing it to have a red border ..

@bytheriver you can't. If the phone has a generally purple display, you can fix it by calibrating the entire display. If it's only certain areas, that won't work. When Samsung acknowledged the purple tint issue, they were clearly taking about the whole display being purple. I think the edge issue is an isolated one and most definitely won't be fixed by a software patch. We ended up returning the S8+ because they weren't in stock anywhere and we only have a 7-day return window in DoA cases. If I had waited, I would have had to send it in for a repair and i doubt the the repair company would agree to a Display change. I'm 99.9% certain I'd get the 'within specs' treatment there.

I looked at the working models in my local Samsung Experience Store in the u.k.

The s8+ units did appear to be showing a more red tint. Turning the red down half way seemed to cure it.

All the s8 phones were white.

Totally agree @UKgalaxy

I'm paying £689 for the s8 so I'll definitely be firing it up in the Samsung Experience Highstreet Store before leaving to check that it both turns on Ok and I'll be looking at the screen for whiteness.

As I've just mentioned in my recent post here some of the s8+ models seemed to show this tint.

The s8 models seemed to all be fine with the displays being white.

Russia seems to have it? And someone from London. But I've been told by samsung NL it could be 2 weeks or more.
Fingers crossed.

Doesn't matter anyway - according to some Korean Twitter users, the update really doesn't do much and certainly won't fix those cases in which the edges are red and the rest isn't.

Also, changing the color temperature to cool isn't a fix. A lot of people like warm colors on the screen.

I have the red tint. I took it to Best Buy on Samsung's instructions to talk to the rep there for Sammy and he couldn't do anything to fix it. I called Samsung back ( I bought it directly from them) and they wouldn't do an exchange??? They will only take a return for a full refund. So, I am sending it back. Well, I just bought G6 on Swappa. After the Note 7, and the crap updates with my S7 unlocked version, I'm done. I'm so disappointed. I really liked this phone other than the tint. I bet it's hardware. Maybe I'll be proven wrong.
