Thought this was funny and interesting.

Not sure, but I don't have a lot of opinions about the project other than "not impressed... yet". If it's just another way of recreating another closed system that doesn't work well with all the others, I'm tuned out.

I think the reason behind the whole project was to:

- give Samsung more control over their phones (becoming Apple-like with control)

- give Intel a much-needed stake in the mobile market (how's that working out?)

I see why Samsung would want that, but not how Tizen would give it to them. They didn't seem to be a leader in the project, just a contributer similar to their involvement in Android, open handset, etc.

I was under the impression that they (along with Intel) were leading the project. I even read that in some articles.

That's definitely how I felt it was being spun, and it might be right. I thought it was originally more of a Linux Foundation thing with a ton of companies contributing, but like I said... I haven't been following it closely.

I think this is what Motorola uses on the RAZR Maxx. I've wondered for ages why everyone hasn't adopted this tech. Good stuff.

Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they did. Would be even less surprised if someone had already used it before them.

Either way, I don't see a lot of benefit with this. A flexible battery? Who really needs that?

That isn't what Motorola uses. Motorola uses lithium polymer batteries that aren't rigid. This is actually describing a multi-cell battery that is flexible instead of what is used currently, which is a set-shape and not flexible. (See the battery in the Nike fuel band, which is curved but not flexible)

They probably want to patent it so Samsung can't use them in their rumored flexible phones.

This patent wouldn't be much help for that. It describes a small multi-cell battery, which wouldn't be applicable. (Plus, Samsung's flexible phones aren't actually flexible. Just a small portion of the display is)

Maybe the battery is for the iWatch?

Yes that is the most likely cause.

If samsung wasn't a little ***** and legally licensed the patent from Apple, then Apple wouldn't sue them.
