Thought this was funny and interesting.

IPad mini 350 US(not that it's relevant to us two) 200 US for Nexus 7 not a MAJOR difference,

That's 175% more expensive or conversely the N7 is 57% of the cost of an iPad mini. Huge difference, but the N7 wouldn't be 200 if Google wasn't eating the cost difference.

But mac products tend to be a be a very good investment. Their lifespan tends to be double that of a pc, and with less issues overtime.

While I agree that they do last, I wouldn't say that they are any more of a better value in the end. In fact what I have found is many people using their old Macs just keep slogging along on an antiquated machine because they paid so much for it. I have old PCs that I paid $500 for that also last a long time. Maybe not as long as the $2500 Mac but certainly not only 20% as long.

Yeah well I think of it this way, when I buy a PC I am only paying for three computers(Windows OS ,Linux OS and Chrome OS)With a Mac I am buying four computers(OSX, Windows,Linux, Chrome OS) It's just better IMO.

You seem to be forgetting Apple is a hard ware company and make all profits from hardware, it makes sense for them to price the ipad that way. Google is a services company and they will get to you in anyway possible-even if they will have to sell at a loss.

I think that's exactly what I said... we're agreeing :p

This is the dance that Google and Apple play. Unfortunately for Apple, they don't make any money off Google but Google makes plenty off Apple.

I, unfortunately, have never had a pc last more than two years. My son broke the screen on my current pc today, it was four months old. It was already crapping out. Keyboard was out and it couldn't keep a connection. I have the worst of luck with electronics.

I'm in a pretty bad place right now. Asking for forgiveness or grace in advance on this one if I do anything stupid. Really trying not to. - Love Wallaby.

I think it really comes down to what you buy. I usually buy Dell now only because it's easier, but before that I built my own systems. I currently have 7 PC's. 1 is 6 years old. 3 are older than 4 years. 2 are over a year and 1 is brand new. The last 3 that I purchased are top of the line Dell 8500 series. They usually cost around $1000. I find that a lot of people that have issues with their PCs just buy the cheaper off the rack Best Buy special for $500. You get what you pay for. My Macs usually cost over $2000 and won't last twice as long as 2 Dell 8500's. It doesn't mean the Mac is bad just over priced comparatively. And although I think Macs have fewer problems compared to PC's they still do have problems.

If your used to mac, you won't have any issues with Ubuntu(linux). They are both based on Unix, with the exception of mac being based on bsdunix and being closed source.

I would argue most consumer soft ware SHOULD be closed source.

Not very true at all.

Apple may be earning up to $1 billion this year from Google search on iOS devices | TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog

That's probably one of the key reasons why Google is working so hard on pushing its apps on IOS (arguably even moreso than on Android). The more people use their apps in place of IOS's default apps, the less they have to pay Apple (and the more profits they earn). No wonder Apple won't open up their webkit or allow other default apps.
