Thoughts about Nexus 1

thats a damn shame!

that article and video is just down right sad. all i have to say is why. when you come out with a supposedly game changing flagship device all of the gloves must come off and you should come out swinging. what a dissapointment, the guys in cupertino are probably laughing now. it is one small thing after another, but when you add them all up, the N1 just doesnt hold up. i am still getting one when released for VZW but only out of necessity.

Good read in your link, sounds like all the Android

ARM graphics phones could be sped up if they tweak the OS to take advantage of the floating point, great news!

Truth. Touche! Was reading this. Appears the N1 is packing a somewhat unoptimised GPU. At least there is a possible future for it, even if it's a bit ropey right now.

i think i notice i pattern here. to N1 is to wait. wait for this, wait for that. wait for proper usage of the GPU chip, wait for proper soft button presses, wait for 3g reception issues to be fixed, wait wait wait. what happened to the days of proper device development and releasing a device when it is actually ready. i am mean i am all for firmware updates but some of the devices functionality should be ironed out before it is released to the public. wow i am really irritable today

If today's post about the Nexus One doesn't confirm that it's a complete bomb, I don't know what will. Keyboard issues, 3G issues, touchscreen issues, multi-touch issues. I mean really?! What does work on this thing? I know its only on SOME devices but this is starting to sound a lot like the first Storm when it was first released. People will defend it til the Nexus 2 is released and then they will come to their senses. My opinion though, its a complete waste of money. Just my opinion though...

I tend to think the bulk of people criticizing the N1 have never owned one. I respect the opinions of the people who have owned one and have negative things to say. However I get the sense most of the negative comments about the N1 are coming from people who have never even laid hands on one. Does it have shortcomings? Of course. However on the whole, I find it to be a fantastic device and I am not just content with mine, but I absolutely love it.

I think you're all writing off the verizon N1 a bit too soon. It's been several months since the initial N1 release, and HTC is one of the big names in smartphone manufacturing, with GOOGLE backing it up. I think there's a strong chance they're recognizing these problems, and will release a slightly improved version for the big release on the big new carrier (think Pre vs. Pre+, but better). Someone else suggested T-mo was a test market to figure out what needed to be adjusted on the phone. I think that makes perfect sense.

I'm betting we'll start to see leaks in the next couple weeks hinting at some changes to the verizon model.

i hope your right, but doubt it. if the 23rd is truly the release date, those phones are sitting in boxes ready to ship.

The only way I'll switch is if it's another Motorola. They seemed to have gotten it right with the Droid the first time around. Ok so the keyboard isn't the best, but I can easily forgive that.

Actually it's quite close to the be honest. I expected the N1 to be faster. Also it's not really apples to apples as the milestone is still running 2.01.

there is a 6 second difference from the time the app is opened and the earth shrinks to its smallest and is ready to navigate! how is that close?

That's just the app load time which has little to do with rendering. The n1 should be quicker here as it does have more ram, however, we cannot neglect that the fact that it's running 2.1. Have you seen the recent video of 2.1 on the Droid? It's a night and day difference. Until both phones have the same OS, load times as shown in this video should be taken with the grain of salt IMO although the Nexus 1 should always have the edge.

What I was referring to was rendering (which you mentioned on your original post) after the maps were loaded up. Between the 2, there isn't that much of a difference. And again this is with 2 different OSs.

Have we all forgotten google earth was built to run on 2.1?

Not a 2.1 rom......not a APK to 2.0.1............JUST 2.1

Probably has something to do with that
