Thoughts on Android Central's article on Pixel 3's "horrendously slow" camera?

Ain't this the truth. Brand seems to be a controversial one. Lot of people like to write and talk about Google and their hardware, especially the Pixels.

Still seems one or two people are looking forward to Pixel 4 anyways.

I'm ok with that if they talk about the pixel bad or good but dont make it like it's a widespread problem or could of said that was a issue I had my pixel and I tried such and such and nothing worked hopefully Google fixes it, but to say "Google is the only company selling high end phone with terrible camera performance" is just wrong .

Re: Thoughts on Android Central's article on Pixel 3's "horrendously slow" camera?

I think this is probably it, as well ... Andrew said (in the comment section) that he is on his 3rd Pixel and he had the same problem with all three. I would bet he installed everything the same way on each one. Sounds like user error to me...

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't define lag on the stock camera as user error. My bet is that personal settings or apps that he restored on all his phones could be the cause. This means that Google should fix the API or any problem with the OS to protect the camera app from unwanted interferences. I have no doubt about this. Well, at least that's the theory, isn't it? :)

My point is that you don't bash a phone, or a company, before doing some digging first. When most people don't have that problem and your 3 phones replicated it you have a lot of information on your hands to understand what's going on.

The displays on all the Pixel 2 XLs were terrible. No phone should ever have a POLED display.
Well, this is false. Both parts. Not all Pixel 2 XL displays were terrible... only a small part of them. And POLED is fine, as long as they meet or exceed the standards of other displays on the market.

I didn't have that issue on my 2xl

I disagree. No problems with mine. No burn-in, good colors, minimal blue-shift that I stopped noticing after a day. I generally don't prefer the super splashy colors that you tend to see on a Samsung phone.

If there are slowness issues with the Google Camera while Facebook is installed, that's a problem. Facebook is one of the most popular Android apps. But it's likely not Facebook or there would be way more reports of the issue.

This reminds me of the Facebook Messenger problem we're seeing a lot of in the forums, primarily with Samsung phones, where sending photos as MMS using FB Messenger seems to cause the photo to become super-zoomed and cropped. Problem seems to go away if you go back to the stock Messaging app. I think we've been seeing complaints for at least a couple of months now, and it looks like the FB devs haven't fixed it yet (if they're even aware of it in the first place).

You gotta admit the guy is good at his job ...
I mean for a click bait journalist this guy is top notch . I will say there has been tons of really intelligent helpful replies .

But really come on android is a mature OS at this point , problems like he's having aren't hard to solve. As he well knows.

How long before the readers of android central get tired of being trolled by the editors and start leaving ?

Yeah. Okay. I had 5 Pixel 2 XLs over the course of the year manufactured from different locations and every one of them were terrible. But you know more than me.

Cool beans. I had 5 different Pixel 2 XLs and every one of them had terrible displays.

I had one .. the whole year and no issues. But I guess since you waste more money you know more than me.

Anyone else?
Long answer: I'd rather knowingly install a cocktail of a Trojan, worm, and a slew of viri, with ransomware, on a rooted device with an unlocked bootloader as opposed to Facebook on my phone.

Short answer: no I don't have Facebook on my phone.

It was pretty annoying on my recent trip to NYC with my family. Camera app would open, but the screen wouldn't refresh to show the live image, and the shutter button did nothing until it did. I can definitely say that my 3XL would sporadically take as much as 4-5 seconds before it would take a pic. Still like my phone though... :)

You just posted this two posts in a row. Could you elaborate on what you mean by, "terrible?". I also had a large number of 2 XL's, starting in mid summer of last year, still have two of them... None of them are even, "bad" or, "sub-par", let alone, "terrible".

No lag. No problems. I got this phone specifically for its camera and it's been great. I understand the frustration with having problems that no one else seems to have--I had a Samsung S9+ and hated it, while everyone else was voting it phone of the year. But me venting frustrations over that phone isn't as weighty as the editor of a major website doing so, acting as if his sole experience is that of many.
