Thoughts on camera? Selfie, beauty mode not nearly as good as Note 10

Should we expect camera updates? So far I'm just not impressed at the camera, especially when taking selfies and such. Quality is a lot worse than Note 10 Plus.

S20 Ultra also had camera issues early on until software updates.

Yes the S20 ultra did have camera issues. I remember people saying I'll wait for the note they will have camera fixed by then. Looks like that concept went out the door. I think I've read there are updates, but not sure. The camera is the least of my concerns on the phone, sometimes it's weeks before I look at it much. I just need point and shoot or quick video, I'm never looking at the features. If the note 20 came with no front camera making a complete screen with no hole I would have considered that. Although the lack of 120 refresh would have been a deal breaker

What kind of issues are you having specifically with the camera? Did I miss a post about camera issues?? Reviews I’ve seem so far say otherwise Usually saying improvement over S20U with autofocus fixed. Mkbhd did say there is shutter lag like the S20U though which doesn’t sound great.

I haven't taken my Note out of the box yet but my S20 Ultra doesn't take worse photos than my Note 10 + so I'm inclined to believe that the Note Ultra shouldn't be worse based on comparisons I've seen between the S20 and Note Ultras. I'll take it for a spin later but I'm expecting no disappointments.

Shutter is there which ducks when you have a 3 year old. But when the shots come out well, they are really good! Otherwise I'm not having the save issue. Selfies are fantastic compared to the Note 10.

I'm not getting the best results with it so far. Checking to see what the sweet spot it with settings for best performance. So far getting a lot of blur with my kids inside with decent lighting while they are posing. So if they were moving I have very little faith in the results.

I was so darned wiped (I can't do this anymore - 70 years has caught up with me) after yesterday. First, my AT&T SIM Card (from Samsung) was unprovisioned, so I had to wait 105 minutes for a callback from AT&T to just get online. That actually worked out because I got a lot of the boring setup work done while waiting. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is "Old Man... Long Day!" As I grabbed the phone off the charger and headed down the hall to bed at midnight, I realized, I hadn't tried the camera, so I turned around, put it in "Night Mode" and shot back into the completely dark kitchen. I looked quickly and went to bed. I looked again this morning and Wow, makes my Note 9 Night Mode look silly! I don't have an image hosting site so sorry for the compression!20200820_003451.jpeg

Even though I turn off all their crappy face smoothing effects, it still looks like bit like oil painting compared to what I get from iPhone or Pixel for the front camera. God thing I don't take that many selfies but definitely not my favorite camera for selfies comparing to iPhone and Pixel.

I'm soooo disappointed with the camera the pictures look washed out and faded. My daughter laughed at me with her iPhone Max pro when we compared pictures. I don't care for iPhones but the camera is a big deal for me and I really expected more coming from a note 8. Used my same screensaver and it looks much more vibrant on the note 8 so maybe for me it's just the display. Sigh.

The only thing that really have caught me about the selfie camera so far, is how small it is compared to the Note 10 plus, also because the phone is a bit taller it makes it disappear more.
