I realize this choice is mine alone, and that answers will vary based on where I post this, but I'm looking for thoughts on choosing between a Note 5 and an S7 Edge as both are currently the same price on my upgrade plan ($149.99). Obviously the s-pen is a major differentiator that will figure largely in my decision, but beyond that what are some things to consider from your use of one or the other (or both) of these devices. Thank you.

Do you need an S-Pen? Because if you do, I'm sure the Note 5 still holds up. It's an awesome phone, as is the Edge.

The Note 5 also keeps its flat design, so if you prefer that, the Note 5 is for you.

Not sure who your provider is, but t-mobile had the Note 5's priced over $700. IMO, I think that's too high for last year's Note iteration.

I was also looking at the Note 5 but I would need to get the 64GB model due to no SD card support. Otherwise it's still a great phone.

I returned my Note 7 today and walked out using my back up Moto Pure Edition.. I was looking at the Note 5 on T-Mobile but it seems they're only offering the 32gb edition, today that's to little storage for a device like the Note in my opinion. I decided to leave without a purchase and research my options to include the S7/Edge and possible an iPhone. It's disappointing to see the Note 7 go, beautifully designed and somewhat elegant. Hopefully Samsung finds the flaw and can learn from this mistake.

I just left Verizon as well with the same dilemma. I opted for the s7 edge as its the same phone only slightly smaller and no s-pen. I felt that the Note 5 was taking me backwards and i am used to larger Phones. I'll try it out foe the 14 days to see how I like it. I'm blown away by this Note 7 though.

As you stated it is a choice of yours but you do have the return policy, just have to chalk up the restocking fee. I would go with thr S7 Edge if you really liked the Note 7 that much.

Good luck on making a solid choice, as a gadget girl I'm really disappointed that I have to settle for a smaller screen, but from the postings of other N7 owners the S7 Edge wasn't a bad choice of theirs.

The S7 Edge has a better processor, better camera, water resistant, sd card and finally a bigger better battery

Oh yeah -- is the S7E just water "resistant" (i.e. like the iPhone 7) or is it IP68 like the Note 7 was? Didn't want to give it a bath til I knew for sure. ;)

Having owned both a Note 5 and S7 Edge, I can tell you that I prefer the edge for the following reasons.

1. The Edge has a larger and longer lasting battery (by a few hours in my experience).
2. The edge is waterproof with an IP68 rating. The note has no water resistance. Important to me with kids, accidents, etc.
3. The Edge is much more manageable to use one handed. While they are comparable in size the Edge is narrower which makes it easier to hold in one hand.

I did like the S pen, but honestly didn't use it as much as I thought I would. Both devices are fragile so get a good case with 360 protection or a good insurance plan. These babies are expensive to replace. Good luck!
