thoughts on the V20?

Does anyone know what the actual usable screen area is i.e. it can't be 5.7 with that large home button panel at the bottom? Also, is the published 5.7 also include the top screen notification area?

I am very happily on the V10, switching to the V20 would all depend on pricing and what I can get for my V10 on a trade in.

I consider the V20 upgrades (over the V10) to be more of the incremental variety, as opposed to night and day or addressing serious design flaws... given how I use my device.

I am absolutely happy with the sound and audio of the V10 as a lossless audio player. That paired with its high or low impedance headphone amp make it a winner for me. Awesome how the ESS + LG partnership continues for the V20. ESS DACs are used in audio processing equipment (professional and consumer level) costing $1000s. B&O is no slouch either, although I do not believe they have experience in pro-audio, TV/film/music production. AFIAK B&O is more a consumer targeted brand. I am also curious what sonic differences there are in the B&O branded V20, and the non-B&O for North America. Is it just branding and image marketing?.. or is it real?

Battery and SOT is plain and simple... the more the better. V20 wins here, how much remains to be seen. Is it worth the asking price, probably not since my V10 easily makes it through my day even with "heavy" use. The batteries look compatible... I am wondering if the V10 battery can be used in the V20 and vise versa?

With the V20 I will definitely miss the V10 wireless Qi charging. I don't even plug in the USB cable anymore. Going back to a mandatory USB cable-charge would take some getting used to, and USB-C cables (good ones) are not cheap.

Fit, finish, cosmetics, feel are all moot points since I use otterbox cases.

Camera is an interesting one. My only complaint about the V10 is low light image quality, but even then its not a major complaint since the flash is good enough for what I am doing.

Jeepers. Just realized how much bigger the V20 is to the Note 7. If the test device is equal to retail, looks like the V20 camera is not as good as the Note 7.
Most of what was in that video was either subjective (I.e. White balance differences, which they did point out being subjective), or misleading.

To the latter part, look at the pictures including the sky where they mentioned a lack of dynamic range. That's not what was going on. It was a more exposed image all around. You can tell this by how the building was brighter on the V20 than the N7. The app programming may have had a little to do with it, and could make a difference if you only want to aim and shoot with no other inputs. But simply tapping the area you want to focus/expose on can affect this. You could also go full manual (which I understand why they didn't) and bring down the shutter speed more.

The most objective part of this was the noise levels, which the V20 apparently wins out on. So taking that, plus using manual controls, I'd say the V20 could very well beat the N7 with everything else in the image being equal (w white balance, exposure, etc). They also mentioned the shorter minimum focus distance on the N7. I'll give it points there, but personally doesn't matter to me.

That's the problem with all the auto mode comparisons. It's handicapping the phones and you don't get to see the whole picture (pun intended). This even came up in the Dx0 review of the G4 camera. It was ranked pretty high already, but several people called them out for not testing manual mode or RAW, which likely would have increased scores even more.

Sorry Kev but no way! I'm a tech lover and can honestly tell you that I will never ever want or need any Apple product. Haven't since my Commodore 64 days actually! Not even an ipod when they were a 'thing'. They are great for others but Apple's ecosystem is too restrictive (and proprietary!) for my use.

ive tried their iBooks 15 years ago and have used an iphone 4S, 5S and now a 6S through work and its not great but not bad. Not being able to attach photos to email without starting with the photo is annoying, so is the UI layout. But that 7plus camera, screen and battery is very attractive. Looking to pre order tomorrow, just wish the V20 had more info out already.

the 3200 mah battery killed it for me. Theres no justification to launching a new phone today with anything less than 3500. Also why a 16/8mp rear cameras. this presentation was horrible

IMO, 3,200mAh isn't too bad. That should last you the whole day with moderator usage. Plus the battery is removal which is a nice. The most interesting thing for me about the device is the Audio quality.

I think battery life on the V20 should be improved over the V10 even with only a 200mAh increase in battery size. I think hardware refinements and using Nougat should help alleviate the battery life issues that plagued the V10.

According to a LG representative on YouTube, he said with Nougat and a 3200 mah battery, we could expect 20 percent more screen on time with the V20 over v10 We'll see.

I used to think that too, but then I actually tried it. It's not near as bad as the haters would have you believe. At the very least you'd have a new appreciation for Android. :)

The biggest hurdle is sharing between apps. It's doable, but nowhere near as fluid as intents (basically functionally equivalent though).

Commodore 64 was not Apple unless you just mean the timeframe.

I care more about phone speaker(s). Haven't heard a word about them

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think the speakers will be any better than they were on the V10 or any of the current Samsung phones. It will probably be on par with those. I hate that mfg.'s put speakers at the bottom. LG could have easily moved that speaker to the top of that bottom chin. Oh well.

If you're wanting a phone with a good speaker then I would suggest looking at the ZTE Axon 7 or an HTC phone.

The note 7 speaker was the worst I've ever had in any phone. I hope it isn't THAT bad.

Its also more efficient... less battery consumption for the same brightness output levels.

Exactly, thats why AMoled is better for a phone. MUCH better battery life. Especially for the always-on features like time and notifications.
