thoughts on the V20?

Still undecided between this and Pixel XL. Even tho the Pixel is 3450mAh, it's not removable. So in a few years if it starts acting up, I'm stuck. But with LG V20, I can just replace the battery. But hoping for no BOOTLOOP. Just confused right now still.

Re: Looks like a great device

This has better software than the One Plus 3 though because of Nougat and improved Doze. And I'm sure this phone kills OP3 in audio.

I've watched the LG UX 5.0+ video.

Wow, they've actually kinda cleaned it up nicely.

I especially like the way they did the DPI changer (just like on the Nougat preview) and the much-improved theme engine that themes a lot more stuff and gives me a dark theme as well.

You ever keep a device for a few years as a daily driver? I haven't yet :p. I have an addiction to moar devices.

I'm kinda in the middle on the V20. There are things I really like about the phone and things I don't. Easily the biggest disappointment for me is the 3200mAh battery. I guess we will have to wait and see how much on screen time we can expect from a full charge. Hopefully it having Nougat will also help alleviate some of the battery issues that plagued the V10.

What I really like is the design! Yeah, I was hoping it would still have the steel side rails like on the V10 because that's something that made the phone stand out from other phones out there. But I imagine the reason why they didn't bring them back was issues it caused with the fingerprint scanner not always working. But the phone still looks great with its all metal design and slim bezels! I love that the back is removable and the phone isn't modular like most of us feared it would be. Also, its great to see the second screen coming back as well as the large 5.7" QHD display....and its FLAT to boot!

I'm disappointed in the screen because I know it drains the battery far worse than an LED. Especially with that always on, full ribbon strip .

The 2nd screen had little to no effect on battery life of the V10. I imagine this will be the same with the V20.

Not really an inspiring design. I think the V10 looks much better. I really miss the rubberized back!!! That phone would never slip out of my hand.

If the T-Mobile rep is correct then the phone is going to come with a rubberized back as an option to replace the standard one.

I disagree 100% with you on this. To me the quality of the display is all that matters in a display. So appropriate brightness coupled with accurate color, saturation and gray-scale representation, viewing angles, low black levels, contrast ratio are the visible things that matter in a display - and the calibration of these things is measurable and there is an objective better or worst. Do some people prefer less accurate or undersaturated or oversaturated displays? Sure. But they're preferences are in opposition to the industry standard. That doesn't mean they ought not like what they like, it just means their preferences are not in line with what is objectively better. The other giant thing about display tech that matters is power efficiency.
You're in the vast minority.

Metal body, side buttons, USB-C, and the rumored color choices have removed any interest I have in this phone.

I just hope that my V10 lasts a really long time, because I have no idea what I will replace it with.

Here's the thing.

You can't. There are too many other factors involved to see that in a video. You can keep repeating yourself, but the video you watched has been processed multiple times by different algorithms before getting to your eyes.

The G5 display lacked many things, but one of them was not contrast.

What you showed is irrelevant. The G5 display looks like garbage compared to the screens in that comparison and pretty much everyone would agree.

It's not irrelevant in that it completely disproves your statement about the contrast being bad.

I wasn't trying to say anything else....

Lol. I crave more devices by the year but I'm pretty good at keeping my phone for 3+ years depending.

That makes no sense. I'm standing with the industry standard. Can you explain? Do you mean average consumers with no industry knowledge? Could they be less relevant? The people who know better matter in areas of objective measurements.

Even if the vast majority still thought that the earth is flat, they'd still be wrong and their opinions would have no bearing on the facts.

I would actually wait and get hands on with it before jumping to conclusions based on watching a video.
I've probably watched over 10 videos on the LG G20. Only one mentioned that the screen looked good, the Phonearena video said "this panel in particular doesn't seem to shine with any extraordinary type of glow", and the others didn't mention the main display at all, which I think they avoided talking about for a reason.

You said it has poor contrast.. he proved, with evidence, that statement was false. How could that be irrelevant?

heres a drop test of the phone. I
m not liking that the back pops off so easily

Yeah but its nice to see the phone is still as durable as the V10. I imagine the back popping off when you drop it could be an annoying issue if you're prone to dropping things and you go without a case. And if you have a habit of dropping things then you shouldn't be using the phone without a case to begin with. :-!
