Three cheers for Jason Collins

I am not bisexual in any way shape or form, in order to be bisexual I would have to have had sex with another man.

As I stated in an earlier post Jason Collins was engaged to a woman (for about 8 years from what I have read) during this period he was also actively having sex with men as well. That is what makes his decision a choice. He chose men over women.....

Wrong. Being bisexual doesn't mean you have had sex with members of both genders. It means you are sexually attracted to members of both sex. Many people are gay, and have yet to have had sexual intercourse with another person of their gender. Did you have to have sex with a female to verify that you are straight?

I don't have a good answer for that. I simply don't, because if marriage is something that comes from the Bible, it would seem hypocritical for gays to want to embrace something for the Bible when they don't believe in it. I defer this answer to someone more qualified, but I believe the concept of marriage exists in all cultures and even those that were never exposed to the Bible.

Would a rose by any other name still smell as sweet?

I doubt gays want to "embrace" marriage from a biblical a sense for the most part. They seem to look at it and want their relationship recognized socially and from the legal sense of the term, much like I or anyone else that isn't religious uses the term. So perhaps a change of legal terms is in order. No longer call it a marriage if it's not a religious union, but call all government recognized unions something else to limit confusion on the topic.

After all, religious beliefs should only apply to the people practicing them and not forced onto people that follow different beliefs.

As for people choosing to be gay, I've only heard that argument from religious people that are either misinformed or refuse to acknowledge that it isn't a choice. Their followup point is usually that a gay person can choose to not act on their feelings. To those people, I suggest you choose not to act on your attraction to members of the opposite sex. No dating, no marriage, no one to live your life with despite their attraction. Talk about a sad existence. That's exactly the logic being used in those arguments when they say gay is a choice.

Umm... maybe a look at men's and women's biological anatomy is in order here. In PG terms (for the sake of this public forum), men are naturally built to mate with women and women are naturally built to mate with men. Simple as that, and you don't have to be religious to see it.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Someone on this thread even went as far to say that it was ok for a reporter who is a woman to see a man naked in a shower room because they are "hot", yet its not ok for a gay male to see another straight male in the shower room, because they are not.

Thank you for pointing out. My apologies for participating (replying in kind / marked as 'liked'). Misogyny should not be tolerated as well. My reply was disrespectful to women and men, both gay and straight.

It does, like islam, but you also have people that believe in their religion that has documented the beginning to the end of time. It also has warnings of things like this happening.

This is kind of a slippery slope because I believe it can be used to discriminate against homosexuals and others who don't follow the Bible.

I know it was a good natured joke. But some people really think that way. And it helped to prove my point :-) Straight people are not attracted to every person of the opposite sex, nor are gay people attracted to person of the same sex they meet, that is why it should be no different for a female to see a straight male naked than it would a gay male to see a straight male naked. But alas, the world does not yet nor will it ever have truly equal view points.

Not many people make that point, so I give you props for that and kinda thought the same myself for a time. But you see homosexuality in other species where mating isn't a pleasure activity or have a social stigma, and how many people have babies with no intention of marriage and vice versa. So if a person loves someone of the same sex, the procreation argument doesn't hold much water. They want to be able to enjoy the same legal and social benefits as traditional couples. I.e. inheritance rights, hospital visitations normally restricted to immediate family, tax benefits, etc, and most of all to simply be happy with the one they love without the social stigma.

No bubble burst here.

Wow. Lots of amusing posts here.

Just because someone is gay it doesn't mean they aren't christian. To be christian you believe certain things. Such as Jesus being the son of God. Because someone sins they cant be Christian? Look at all the popes molesting children. Look at all the catholics using birth control. Look at all the people having sex for pleasure and not procreation. Who are some of you to judge the severity of gays sins compared to those of your own? They aren't mortal sins last I checked.

What's it say in the bible? Something like "he who hasn't sinned shall cast the first stone?"

I agree about gays just wanting the same marriage rights as straight people. Doesnt seem like too much to ask.

There are different sections within the "forum". Sometimes our minds expand from just Android to other topics, because as much as we love our phones, there are many other things going on in this world. So jump in and argue with us. The more the merrier.

even by your definition I would have to have been attracted to another man at some point which I haven't been.

Rock Hudson and Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) were both gay and yet did not see the need in making their sex life public. I hold no animosity toward folks who keep their private business ....private.

Non racist.

Black.

To vote for or against a person due to the color of their skin is racist. The ONLY thing to consider when voting for ANY elected office is the content of their character, and their ability to carry out the duties of that office effectively.

I never accused you of being bisexual, and whomever did made a poor point in trying to say you were. I just countered your assumption of what being bisexual consisted of. As for making their sex life public, coming out of the closet is not the same as putting a sex tape on blast or sharing intimate details from the bedroom. Neither of which I though this athlete has done? I may be mistaken. I will recheck to be certain.

IMO coming out of the closet IS making his sex life public...

You know without a doubt many people who are straight. So does knowing they are straight make their sex life knowledgeable to you? I know many people who are in a heterosexual relationship, but it doesn't mean that I know the down and dirty of whats getting on between their sheets.

If that were the case, it should be morally wrong for you, or I, or anyone to be open in their sexuality. Meaning we shouldn't be allowed to go out in public with our significant other, or show any public affection. There is nothing to be ashamed of in being open with your sexuality so long as it is not raunchy or disrespectful.

I'm not overly religious, but i know that the religious people are thinking that two men holding hands IS disrespectful - to God. But why does someone have to be religious to be offended by homosexuality?

To my knowledge they don't. I think what happens is that many times when somebody expresses some kind of disapproval of homosexuality they reference the Bible, Christianity or God.

I don't think someone has to be religious to be offended by homosexuality. But I do believe someone has to be closed minded to be offended by homosexuality. Everyone deserves the chance to be happy. Whether they love a woman, or a man, whether they choose to be alone, or married to someone who is of a different race. At one point in time, to marry outside of ethnicity was frowned upon. It was considered perverse and immoral. I think we've come a long enough way that if two people of the same gender are in love, they should be allowed to show it and be happy in that love. Not be afraid to truly be happy because they are afraid that someone will be offended or that they will be considered disgusting and outcast.

The bible says not to get divorced. It says intoxication is a sin. It says our body is a temple. But people get divorced every day. People fill bars every Sunday night (except in the bible belt ;-) ) and I know "christians" who have multiple tattos. You are allowed to have your beliefs. But the bible says to love everyone regardless. It is not our job to judge.

I would rather two men who are deeply in love get married and live a wonderful life together, than a man and a woman who are temporarily in love get married, lose the lust, and get divorced.

How do you feel about children growing up around a homosexual neighbor or relative? What do you think of the influence it would have on them?
