throttle?! why?

I can understand throttling to prevent the idea to users from going crazy with the date of putting those things are a little bit ridiculously small. If I was in charge of the company I would throw out all the speed to 4 or 5 megabytes per second or maybe even more faster speeds depending on how high the usage is. In other words if you use 15 gigabytes per month but I would not go out on you but if you use a hundred gigabytes for me I would set you speak at 3 megabytes per second. that would make more sense to me as it is to you can still use it.

Sure you can do that. But would you call yourself "Data Strong" if you were, in essence, punishing the high-data consumers like this? Would you be bundling a year of Netflix with phones, MLB at Bat (which allows you to watch at least one game a day,) etc?

What does that mean since Data Strong is just a marketing term that doesn't imply anything? Got any problem with AT&T's marketing terms "AT&T's network has the nation's strongest LTE" or " AT&T is the nation’s most reliable LTE network."? Both of those AT&T statements seems to promise much more than T-Mobile's Data Strong. Really you make a mountain out of a mole hill complaining about Data Strong.

AT&T doesn't even have a good enough GSM (2G) or UMTS/EDGE (3G) signal at my home to have a simple voice call. AT&T doesn't even have VoLTE except in a few urban cities that isn't close to being national. So how does AT&T say they have the nations most "Reliable LTE Network" when they don't even have VoLTE except in a few limited markets? I hate AT&T but I'm not running over to their board to try to attack them over those Marketing terms.

Why do you have T-Mobile since you never seem to like it?

Except those claims are quantifiable, whereas "Data Strong"--as you point out--is more subjective. If you look carefully, the fine print on the same screen or at the end of that "fastest nationwide LTE network" commercial will say something like "According to RootMetrics xx/20xx results" or something like that. Internet providers get sued for false and misleading advertising for making claims out of thin air, and believe me, they are all watching each others' advertising.

AT&T doesn't even have a good enough GSM signal at my home to have a simple voice call. AT&T doesn't even have VoLTE except in a few urban cities that isn't close to being national.

And if they said "best network at Shilohcane's house," you could sue the pants off of them. But they don't. They make nationwide claims, or very specific, lawsuit-avoiding claims...or at least they hope.

AT&T doesn't even have VoLTE except in a few urban cities that isn't close to being national.

OK...and? Didn't TMO launch LTE piecemeal? What's your point?

Please do us all a favor and find another Cell service since all you do is trash it over and over. Why do you have T-Mobile since you never seem to like it.

Or, in other words, "don't bother pointing out flaws about something you pay for unless you drink the Kool-aid too." That sound about right?

The thing is is it is a mobile network not meant to be used like a home network using hundreds of gigabytes at a time. That is why I say for the people that use a lot of internet on their phone to throttle those people so that the other people for trying to listen to music or check their email or other things like that are not slowed or knocked off of the network because of you people taking up all the bandwidth. If you are in a town of 1,000 people and 800 other people or online streaming Netflix at the same time those other 200 people who are trying to get on the internet and download something that they need can not do it as efficiently because you people are using it all. That is why I would throttle you all people if all you do is sit on your phone and stream movies all day. If someone uses three or four hundred gigabytes on a cellular network that is ridiculous. If anybody Used a terabyte of data on their cell phone a month which is what I have seen people doing on Verizon unlimited data plans I would drop you from the network. That is just me angry if you like but that is my stance and I'm keeping to it. However if you travel a lot or out of the house a lot and listening to music and watching YouTube and stuff like that and at the end of the month if you are at 20 gigabytes I do not see that as being too big of a deal. Anything over a hundred gigabytes on my cell phone is crazy. also what upsets me even more is those people who try to illegally use their cell phone internet to replace their home internet as I said before it is a mobile connection. That being said if you use 30 gigabytes a month you should not be throttled to the speed that have been mentioned on here. I think they should do something like this network priority to the other people who use less data but not use the ones who use more data and slow them down to the point they can not use their phone.. 30 gigabytes is not all that bad but it is a lot more than what most people use.

I do agree that since it is unlimited you should use it when you are out and about without fear of how much you are using wasn't that B two gigabytes or 10 but anyone who uses six or seven hundred gigabytes a month is just craziness. I have seen so many posters online Brian about trying to use as much data as they can on a cellular network. That I think is wrong but if you are using it for real things that you need to do and not torrenting movies and stuff like that it is not that big of a deal. The people who use a tear my armoire and data on a cellular data plan needs to be knocked off but if you use 50 gigabytes that is not too bad as a lot of people on the road all the time.

Look, in principle, I may agree with you. But that's irrelevant because TMO promotes some of this data-hogging behavior. If in your hypothetical town of 1000, 900 people wanted to buy Samsung Galaxy S6es with the bundled year of Netflix, do you think TMO would have told them "sorry...we can't sell this phone in this town any more because we can't risk user experience degradation that could come from all 900 of you watching Netflix at the same time?" Of course not. And that's the whole issue: they are advertising one thing, but doing another. Do you think in places where people are getting "de-prioritized" already that TMO has stopped signing up people to unlimited data plans? Probably not either.

As far as tethering goes, they have clear limits. I understand the "it's my data and I will use it as I want to" argument, but if you signed up with TMO understanding that you are going to be able to tether only X GB--those are the terms you agreed to, and I have no sympathy if TMO cancels an account for over-tethering. Same with all the other exclusions they've put.

But "de-prioritizing" people until the end of the month, at limits like 15-20GB--that too unannounced? That's not right.

Most don't use that though... That is usually people trying. Majority of us use 50-150 GB .. which is easy to do in this day and age with HD video. I have over 40 GB of Twitch.TV alone .. It racks up really fast.

Again though .. If they sell unlimited it should mean unlimited. If their network can't handle it .. or if they don't want that much strain on it .. they can go to caps like AT&T and Verizon did. .. but .. I shouldn't feel "bad" for being a "data hog" because I am using what they sold me. That is like someone getting mad that I am using my unlimited monthly gym pass too much and putting wear and tear on the equipment.

I understand your reasoning and why you say that and I'm a very well say the same thing if I have it which I do not. However I would never use that much data unless I am never at the house. I watch movies and stuff and watch YouTube at the house but I do not do that kind of thing when I am out and about. Mostly looking up phone numbers and stuff like that and checking these forms which by the way I really enjoy. If you are traveling and watching movies that is one thing but a lot of people just sit there and use as much as they can just to see how much they can use that I do not think is right. the network should be given some sort of optimization protocols but not throttled a severely as with fasting on here. If you are using your phone and use 40 or 50 gigabytes of data so what but don't use it just to use it. I have seen some pretty amazing things out there about people using 2 or 3 terabyte for a month and I would shut those people off like I said before. however if they do bring metered data plans I sure hope they are not is restrictive as Verizon. I have two phones with 1 gig of data in the bill is $110 a month that to me is totally ridiculous. for that amount of money I need to be getting 20 or 30 gigabytes of data each month. I do understand your point of view. I am also scared that the network is going to go down if people use it like that because I actually enjoy tmobile and their service. Thanks

I agree with all of you guys I really do. If they sell something they should have clear limits stating after 50 gigabytes we will spoil you too Tim magabites for second or something along those lines. Especially if they are selling this Links subscriptions I did not know that. For me if I am on the road and I want to watch Netflix trust me I will do it but as soon as I get home that phone is going on wifi. That is all I was trying to say is that people try to replace their mobile network with their home wifi and using it unnecessarily. If you are on the train and watch 3 movies and rack up 20 gigabytes so what use it as that is what you are getting. I always thought they did not driving I'm going to date of plans anyway so they must be a change coming something sorta like after 30 gigabytes we will put you in a lower speed or after 40 gigabyte on a lower speed and will be shut off completely after maybe 300 gigabytes or something. However in this should be clearly stated and then people will not be getting upset. For most of us the privilege of having unlimited is just a freedom of mind knowing that if I want to watch this audiobook on YouTube while I am traveling on a road trip I can do so without being charged ridiculous seats on my already ridiculously high phone bill. Unless you are way out in the country anybody who pays Verizon for their data plans have something loose inside. I'm not trying to be mean here so please don't take it that way but I do think people should leave Verizon and AT&T even know AT&T is not quite as bad as Verizon but they should leave Verizon and drove to make the prices come down. I am arguing with them about that now as I feel that our bill of a hundred and twelve or so dollars a month for two phones with one gigabyte of data is just ridiculous I told him I can get unlimited on tmobile for the same price. sorry for my long posts but I really feel strongly about this subject as it seems you guys do as well. Please forgive the long post and if it is at all off topic but I feel it all comes to the same thing.

Yes Verizon data plans are a huge rip off in my opinion. $30 for one gigabyte you have got to be kidding me and then $15 per gigabyte over again you have got to be kidding me. Anyone who has t-mobile in their area or sprint needs to leave immediately!

I definitely don't use it just to use it. I have had months for 40-50 GB .. and others of 200+ .. Just depends what is going on. I am at work M-F for about 9 hours every day so .. That is a lot of time to wrack up data usage. Yes I do work but in between working I watch a stream of a tournament. I will admit I don't always stop if it I get a call or am working on fixing a few things but .. I do enjoy being able to watch it.

That still seems high to me but anyway. What is that TV thing whatever you guys mentioned earlier cannot find the post again. many thanks

My man...you make very good points, but for the love of all that's holy, you've got to quote people! :)

The Netflix on WiFi at home: two points.

1.Depending on the phone's build/OS, that may require a user to remember to manually turn on WiFi, or else the phone will stay with the last active connection: cellular data. So that's a 'burden' on the user--the need to remember to turn on WiFi if your phone doesn't do it for you. I'm sure the 'burden' goes away realll quick if you have a limited HS data plan, use it up, and try to watch Netflix on 2G, or on other carriers, get hit with overages. But if you're conditioned to not turn on WiFi?

2 If you've seen some of the screenshots that get posted here in the AC forums, TMO's network speed can dwarf what you'll get on most ISPs. So why put up with their buffering/latency--especially if you're paying for unlimited data?

Yes I know I should quoted you guys. sorry for some reason my phone was not letting me do that. I am not exactly sure why. Honestly I do not mind buffering and have never encountered it even when my wifi gets to 2 megabytes per second download speeds. As far as clothing for some reason it's working on my iPad but I cannot find it on my phone. I'm really sorry about that you all. it works when I go through the Howard Forums app but not when I go through tap-a-talk app which is how my notifications are coming through to me. I did not realize it was not working until you mentioned it.

No big deal. If you're trying but your devices are not cooperating, that is not your fault :)

It works on one app but not the other. I just noticed when I open Android Central it works just fine when I click on or tap on the persons post. Also keep in mind I have very little vision. Lol probably missing something I will try to go through Androidcentral more often when I can actually find the post.

There are reports and screenshots on the internet (including here in this thread, on page 1) of people getting 0.02-0.5 mbps. That's definitely throttled down speed. 8-10 is still appreciable.

I can give you screen shots of the tower im on when im in my apt that gives me .05 to .25 DL speeds and 8 to 10megs UL speeds. But im not being throttled. Its a tower issue. I can go half mile west and get 70 megs down, then back to my apt and its crap, then drive 5 blocks another direction and get 20 megs down. Its also not a loading issue as the speeds are always constantly slow. If it was loading or capacity issues the speeds would randomly spike. . Been like that for 2-3 months. But 3 weeks ago i started to call TMO and complain and they are looking into it.
I also have a neighbor who is on TMO and we get the same speeds at the apt, but when she leave and goes a few blocks away she agrees its much faster.
For my situation, im going with problem at the tower and not throttling.
I also have never gone over 10 GB in a month, the highest usage in the last 6 months has been 7GB.
