throttle?! why?

I don't know if this is the same data plan as yours but my cousin has the unlimited plan with TM and he has 10GB hotspot after that it gets throttled down. But I believe the phones data is not throttled and unlimited.
If you are using hotspot to watch things like Netflix then I would consider using an hdmi adapter from your phone to your TV. That way you wont get throttled.

I can give you screen shots of the tower im on when im in my apt that gives me .05 to .25 DL speeds and 8 to 10megs UL speeds. But im not being throttled. Its a tower issue. I can go half mile west and get 70 megs down, then back to my apt and its crap, then drive 5 blocks another direction and get 20 megs down. Its also not a loading issue as the speeds are always constantly slow. If it was loading or capacity issues the speeds would randomly spike. . Been like that for 2-3 months. But 3 weeks ago i started to call TMO and complain and they are looking into it.
I also have a neighbor who is on TMO and we get the same speeds at the apt, but when she leave and goes a few blocks away she agrees its much faster.
For my situation, im going with problem at the tower and not throttling.
I also have never gone over 10 GB in a month, the highest usage in the last 6 months has been 7GB.

I think they are definitely throttling you. I have the same problem with the tower near where I work, I can drive a few miles away and have blazing speed. T-Mobile told me I was "deprioritized" on the busy tower.

Yea I'm not having the throttling problem anymore.. I can't help but join in your conversation I waste like 150 gb a month I'm mostly never home because my school is like a 2 hour bus ride from my house and I leave school really late for after school clubs and stuff. Sometimes it throttles a little and my upload speed is fast and my download speed is really terrible but in reality I'm not complaining anymore I live tmobile :)

Yep -- that is why T-Mobile advertises this way. Even from their page here.

Simple Choice International Plans | Unlimited Data & Text | T-Mobile

"Power Users" :).

I was going to get the unlimited plan but since T-Mobile added the music freedom which does not use no data on the services I subscribe too it does not matter. I mainly use my phone to listen to music when out and never watch videos so the most data I use is about 30MB a month. Even at home on WiFi it is mainly music and the only a bit of video from Twit.tv I rather watch Netflix on my big screen TV.

Yeah I watch Netflix at home on chromecast .. I watch twitch.tv on my 2nd PC monitor when on it but at work I use my phone to watch it.

Because one person may use 50GB, they are data hugs ? Tmobile is NOT throttling. Those speeds from the screen shots show that a tower is actually being upgraded.

I wanted to do a quick follow up.
I was right. (see post number 60 for my original explanation of my problem) TMO just called me to let me know that network guys did a drive by and confirmed bad speeds in a small geographical area where i live. They made tower adjustments Friday night and finished about 630pm. Im posting this today, Saturday because a TMO rep who has been working with me on the issue saw an updated and wanted to follow up with me. She told me they made changes to the tower antennas as well as found an issue with the 700mhz side of the tower. Im using a M8 and Note 3 during all these issues and told her im only affetcted on the AWS stuff, so 1700mhz and 2100mhz stuff. She also noted they will be doing more work on it to correct other issues found, but with NO eta for that.

You have no clue how happy i was to get that phone call. For a tower to have issues for 3 months. Then me calling in 4 weeks ago, then again a week later and to have it escalated, and now a rep is following up with me twice a week. That does make me feel like TMO cares about its customers and is trying to make their network the best it can be. The part im most happy about is the validation that its not throttling, or prioritization, but it in fact was a network / tower issue has now been confirmed.

Why do you all use data like that? That movie can wait. I would slow you to. Do not be data hugs.

It has nothing to do with how much data he is using, it has to do with how many people are on the Network.

That still seems high to me but anyway. What is that TV thing whatever you guys mentioned earlier cannot find the post again. many thanks
You must be stuck in the stone age of data usage? I'll use a simple example of a HD(best quality) Netflix movie stream as stated on their website,is 3GB per hour. I would venture to say most movies are about 2 hours long?
That's roughly 6GB per movie. If you watched 10 movies in a month which I think is not a lot? That's 60GB's right there. Not to mention YouTube, surfing the net, social media, email, watching the news, streaming sports, etc, etc?
Content now is a lot different from a few years ago. I have an unlimited data plan with T-Mobile. I use it as I please(50-70GB) a month. Does that make me greedy?

Btw not throttling at my work place

Well I guess not. If it is available to use I guess it should be used 50 GB a month is a bit higher than normal but not out of the round of possibility for normal data usage. I have seen people who were taking advantage of unlimited data from Verizon and brag about using terrified of mine that is what is ridiculous. Someone who streams audio or video during the day or traveling is not abuse if you pay for it doesn't your workplace have Wi-Fi if so where is that? Also most of the time when people watch movies I would assume their own Wi-Fi but if you pay for unlimited you should use it without worrying about how much it is that you use. However you should not use it just to see how much of that you can use. Use what you need but no more but yes I can see the value of not worrying about data.

My work has wifi. Here is me trying to test it...

It can't even ping the servers let alone do the test (that screenshot was after 2 minutes). This is why I use my LTE at work.

Well don't you know that since it works for him, that it works for you too? ;)
