Is there anyway to get rid of the Throttling that VM puts in place when you hit 2GBs and there is a folder in Data/System called Throttle. Maybe deleting that might help (Don't think so but just asking)

deleting the folder does not help... there was a discussion about this a little ways back... check pages 3-5...

There are three ways to avoid the throttle.
Go with Sprint (all others will throttle or cap!)
Use less data (more wifi)
Get rid of your phone.

Why are you guys such butt holes when responding to the question? The person asks a logical question. In fact I am wondering if there is a way to find this folder myself. Your phone has to send the information and store the information. I am sick of these providers taking advantage of customers. If you pay for unlimited data you need to get unlimited data period no down throttling or anything related you pay for the service you expect to get the service without restrictions. So the providers like to screw with us why not screw back ?

I didn't think anyone was being a jerk, and if anyone was, it would be the OP who was trying to bypass a terms of service, and part of the reason data is so limited.

That folder has been discussed many, many times over the last few months. Any company still stupid enough to put the throttling in the phone, deserves what they get (which is people unlocking it). The throttle is in Virgin's server, putting it on your phone would have meant it was there when you bought the phone, and mine was bought before the throttle, but also would mean the devs would easily have found and removed it by now.

I agree with you, I don't like limits and caps, and companies in general taking advantage, but like it or not, there is only so much bandwidth. On the other hand, while it says unlimited and is for 97% of people who never hit the limit, the terms of service are very clear on how much you can use. It's not like Straight Talk where you don't know and they aren't throttling you down to 100k either, like some other companies, or worse, flat out stopping you or charging INSANE amounts of money if you go over. If you don't like it, you are free to try another company.

I'm not exactly sure what are you so angry about? Virgin has actually been pretty darn good and up front about everything over the many years I have been with them. Which is more than I can say for almost every phone company I have ever dealt with.

Besides all of that, you are paying $25 or $35 a month for a phone AND data... Seriously, you want to complain? Cheaper service doesn't exactly grow on trees. Go look at what a decent post paid plan costs, or even home phone or dsl/cable service.

By the way, you will soon be able to get unlimited 2g and 4g data if you upgrade to the Evo V (3g is still throttled).

ive not noticed much throttle activity even after going over my alloted amount. maybe it depends on how excessive you are.

Depends on the tower's capacity and load.
They say they may throttle you, not necessarily that they will. If no one else is using that tower, there is no real reason to throttle you since you aren't impacting the network. If there is high load, odds are you won't get good speeds anyhow.

According to the fine print on the bottom of their Evo page, "All plans include 2.5GB/month of full speed data or 3.5GB/month with purchase of mobile hotspot enabled device and plan." It sounds to me like they will throttle after 2.5GB no matter what phone you use. If you mouse over the "More" link you can read the full details. Sprint has been informing outlets that the every page saying that is wrong. Someone in the marketing department got it wrong.

The carrier said there will be no throttling or caps on its WiMAX service. However, Virgin will slow users' CDMA data speeds after they consume 2.5 GB of data in a month.

Right, so we have unlimited 4g period, and 3g that will be throttled at 2.5gb? That actually sounds better than what we have now (assuming we live in a 4g area). I wonder however how they will track people who tether the 4g data, unless they won't, which I highly doubt since they even made a plan (15 more $ a month) for people who want to tether. I just wonder if they will make (try to anyway) us pay for 4g tethering. (not saying it's like we "deserve it" or anything, just throwing it out there).

They probably won't throttle the 4g because of the area of coverage.

Once the new TOS pops up somewhere I will bet there is a clause about tethering. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to enforce any type of action taken against you.

I'm really glad to hear there'll be no throttling on 4G. :) Was considering moving to T-Mobiles $30 a month plan before this ... Can't wait for the Evo V

The only time I have heard of Sprint getting involved with tethering is on people who are using 20gigs of data. I get the feeling you only pay for it, to make it easier (I.E. people who don't know how to unlock it themselves).

Ah, so your saying that we really shouldn't worry about 4g tethering "illegally", and if we really need to tether we may as well just get the plan? (I think the best tethering plan may throttle you as well, but I can't assume these things)

The tether plan ups you another gig before 3g is throttled.

I'm not saying you should or shouldn't pay for it, I'm just saying you are paying for a factory supported feature and getting more bandwidth for it.

I wouldn't worry about it though.

xD in that case it sounds like only the 3g is being "monitored" anyway, but your right, unless they say something, ;D 4G awaits us...

My thoughts is this if you need the tethering a couple times a month, then just using your phone is ok. However if you are using it daily for hours at a time..pay the 15 bucks. How many other companies offer phone service and tethering for 50 bucks a month?
