Thunderbolt and Business emails - who has done it?

I am moving over to Thunderbolt from a Blackberry.

It was very easy to set up multiple email accounts on the BB - even the web exchange one I have at work.

I was also able to SEND emails from those email accounts from my BB.

On the Thunderbolt, it seems everything gets sent from the gmail account. And I have yet to be able to set up to receive my work emails on this phone.

I don't want to reply to customers from my gmail account, I want to receive and reply to them from my work email account - same goes for my boss and co-workers as well. I also don't want my friends and family sending emails to this gmail account.

When I got this phone at Verizon, they could not transfer my contacts to this new phone. After serval days of failed attempts to set up my other email accounts, my gmail account was disabled. I deleted that gmail account and started over with a new account and I can now receive my gmail and home emails on my Thunderbolt, but not my work emails.

What (and how) have the rest of you done?

I don't have the Thunderbolt, but I have the Incredible, which is similar. Synced up to my corporate account with no problem using ActiveSync through the HTC Mail app. Pretty much totally has made me stopped using my BlackBerry.

My work email is set up as an exchange activesync. I assume you are using an exchange server? You will probably have to call the IT department to get your domain/webmail info but it was easy to do. Just make sure when you are setting it up you are using the exchange setup. If your company uses a pop3 style then it would set up just like standard accounts. I have found android seems to try and setup exchange emails by the email address like a pop3 but doesn't work most of the time because of security by most companies. You will have to select "manual setup" and enter the info your IT department gives you.

Mine pushes email and works flawlessly.

Maildroid or K9 e-mail clients, both available in Market will likely solve your problem.

I just have my work emails forwarded to the gmail app on my dinc and in the cloud settings have the ability to respond from the email it's sent to or from anyone of my other accts.

Just another option.
The other end will never know the difference.

Ours is a webmail/exchange - I tried setting it up manually (I saved the info from when I set up my work mail on my BB) but it didn't connect. I'll try again, but am worried that I will get my gmail disabled again with too many failed tries.

Thanks for the info.

Mine is webmail through network solutions so what I did seems to be working, but to get it even quicker I have a copy sent to gmail as well, otherwise it may take a bit to get to your device.

Some companies don't allow mail to be forwarded to another email (mine included) for security reasons.

Make sure the domain and username are correct (case sensitive) as well as password. When I changed phones I had to have IT reset my permissions. Not sure why but once I did it worked right away.

one last thing: some companies have it set up as domain/username while HTC has 2 separate fields. This confused a lot of my co-workers at first.

Which app are you using. If you are using the gmail app to send mail (The envelope with the red M), then it will come through gmail. If you are using HTC sense email (the open envelope with a bit of blue) then when you click compose it lets you pick wich acct (at the top). Also you can pick your default acct. In the HTC email client if you get an email on one acct it should respond to it from that same acct....

Have no problem using both Gmail and MS Exchange in the HTC mail app. Can keep the inboxes of both accounts separate or combine them into one really easily.

Only thing is my company forces us to put a lock code on the phone which turns on automatically as soon as exchange is setup and it auto locks after 15 minutes of inactivity. Worth it to have my email handy though.

I have a company blackberry and personal thunderbolt. my blackberry is set up through my corporate IT dept. but i was able to setup my thunderbolt without calling them.

basically what i did was

email address
enter my corporate email address (youremail@yourcompany.com)

Server address
enter your server address. try and find it on your outlook mail.
(mail.yourserver.com/)

Domain
i just enter the name of my company but double check also on your outlook mail.
(company name)

username
what i used, was my log in windows user name when i log in at work.
(windows user name when you log in at work)

password
i enter the windows log in password at work.
(password used to log into windows at work after the windows user name)

and thats pretty much it. worked for me. took some time and about 4-5 tried before i got all the settings right. now i get my emails instantly with no problems. it takes about 2sec from the recipient to me. pretty cool and love it. i hardly use my BB now.

I'm obviously doing something wrong. I will have to ask others at work tomorrow.

I know at least a few people that use Droids at work and they get their email.

Thanks again everyone.

No matter what Android phone you use, the setup will be the same (although it might look a little different). You don't need to download any extra apps, the built-in HTC Mail app will work just fine. Just make sure to get your colleagues' setup and swap out their info for yours and you should be good to go.

I use exchange via the HTC app. I left my domain blank and for the server I didn't add the http. There was an issue with the certificates on the newer Android but you can get the email APK on this forum from older phones.

Edit: I'm using Touchdown now but did setup the HTC exchange app to make sure it worked and used it for a couple of days. I get more options in Touchdown.

FYI: My work does not allow us to directly connect to the exchange server via Android, even though we know all the information to set it up they have it blocked. We have to use an app with more security, so we use Touchdown. Works just fine, just have to enter in a security code to access emails (notifications etc all work).

Corporate email works great on mine so far. We did have an issue with an LG Ally. CC's were not showing up from a couple senders. I installed touchdown on that phone and everyone seems to be happy with it. The TB has a very nice email app. All you need is your email, mail server, domain, username and password. From past experience, I have noticed some phones work better with SSl enabled. With our system, you can use either.
