Thunderbolt Battery Complaints + Tips/Tricks

The analogy that a powerful phone "should" drain your battery is crap! Pure and simple BS! If a company designs a high-end phone believe me that company understands better than you that it will require better resources. It often comes down to whether those needed resources are cost effective for said company. If not, guess what, you get crappy accessories like low power, pitiful batteries! They were in a rush with this one. Like I said they may still correct their mistake but you should not assume that because a device is high tech that it should drain your battery fast. You acquire a more effective power source. If this type of thinking were true then the iPod and the Droid X would fall under this category. While I am not sure I do believe that HTC and Verizon were not prepared for the power consumption that LTE devices are going to require. Motorola will be.

To put it bluntly - baloney.

The TB is FAR more powerful than a DX or an iPod (I know, I came from a Droid X). And Sense is a WAY more polished Android implementation than Phil Blur.

Really a lot of the battery life concerns are overstated (and there is good reason to believe some of them are FUD from iTrolls). I am getting roughly 8 hours without having really done anything.

This morning, however, I did take 5 minutes and stop auto sync on stuff I don't care about (like Facebook) and deleted some old apps that came over from the DX I don't use anymore. I expect battery will get better still.

a few tweaks will help the battery life thanks to everybody that contribute to this thread, help me tremendously

Hi if this is posted already sorry but is there a way to stop the vibration whille typing I turned it off in settings but it still does it even turned all vibration settings off and turned phone off then back on but still doing it THANKS

Hey guys, I'm having a strange battery problem. Last night before bed I unplugged my phone and went to sleep and it was at 100% charged.

I woke up 7 hours later and the battery was DEAD. This is strange because I tweaked the settings yesterday and was able to get a good 8 hours of use throughout the day (texting, browsing, angry birds, youtube)

Here are the apps I've installed so far:

Angry Birds
Swype
DoubleTwist
Word Feud
ESPN Scorecenter
Whatsapp
Beautiful Widgets
Pandora

You are missing the point. I and many others are doing nothing with their phones and the battery is just draining. I left work today at 4:30 with 97% battery life and already its down to 88%. I sent 5 texts thats it. So either my phone is not working properly or the battery life really is terrible. Not an itroll or anything like that either. I love droids and have been waiting for the tbolt for months. I don't want to have to return it but if i can't go at least 8 hours of normal usage - text, web, email- then I am going to send it back and wait for the bionic.

guys right now im unplugged for little over 4 hours and im at 61% with pretty heavy texting, few youtubes, installed few apps, used dolphin hd for little to check it, 2 phone calls, little regular browsing, checked out most of the bloatware....

so im on pace to get about 10hours...i have conditioned my battery yet (drain it all the way to dead and then charge to full)...but i did do a bump charge i just learned about...after it says 100% i turned the phone off completely (fast boost has to be off) plugged in and it started charging more and finally got it to true 100%

ill be content with 10+ hours, especially since ill have car charger

Are you sure it was only 5 texts? Heck I was on here for an hour this morning with my Thunderbolt and I went from 95% to 88%.

Oh and this was a smart move on my part (sarcastically), I used it as my gps today for a 20 mile trip and I thought I had it plugged in, but I didn't. Although my battery only went from 88% to 68% with GPS and turn by turn navigation for 20 miles.

Not having many battery problems so far....turned display down...actually it was down when I bought it. How do I know how to read my exact battery %. Do I need an app or is it on my phone.already?

Are you kidding me! Maybe you are having better battery life but plenty of us aren't. Who cares what phone is more powerful?! My point was simply if you make a powerful device provide a power source that can handle it! HTC placed 1230mah batteries in their previous smartphones (which led to their rep for poor battery performance) so you would think that they would be able to figure this device would need larger than a 1400mah battery. We have to do all this tweaking just to get to minimal battery performance when many other devices fared far better right out the box! If they had provided an 1800 or 1900mah battery this thread would not exist!

Battery issue is horrible when 4g network being used, even wifi didn't drain much, it's 4g which causes problems QUOTE=BullNole228;741060]I know many people are seeing bad battery life and I thought I would see the same or similar battery issues. However, my battery life has been very acceptable, considering how powerful the Thunderbolt is. So far this morning, I unplugged from charging around 8:30 AM. After that, I checked Twitter posts, checked the weather, made and received about 3 calls, and tried out the car dock (with no power connected to it) while using Tango for video chat (3 different times)....I live in a 3G only area by the way. I sent a few text messages and played around with the phone in general between all of that. I also have my Wifi and GPS turned on. While using the car dock, I also tried the navigation (which works and looks GREAT on the TB). I have my brightness set at roughly 60%. I have all animations turned on as well. Currently, my battery is at 84% still!!! So, 4.5 hours later, I still have a very large part of my battery charge left.

Some minor settings I have put in place to help out with the battery life include installing Advanced Task Killer from the market. I have set the application kill level to "Crazy" and to kill the running apps when the screen turns off. I have added the apps I want to stay open to the "Ignore" list. That includes 5 apps I don't mind running in the background.

Again, I am very pleased with how much battery life I am getting, even with all of the bloatware installed. I will be super excited after it is rooted and I can remove all of it. I'm sure the battery life will be much better then.

I hope this helps others with their battery issues.

Happy Bolting!!![/QUOTE]

One day of ownership, battery dead after one day, no calls just sitting on my desk.

Will try fixes, if not Verizon has two week return policy and I will have to do it, I can't have this problem.

I did the same thing this morning and it has extended the life of my battery by a bunch. I have had it off the charger for 3 hours and still at 91%. Yesterday before I did what you call a "bump charge" I would have been down to 65% after 3 hours. I really am noticing a huge improvement.

Are folks all running in 4G areas and having many active apps running like Twitter / Facebook updating every 15 minutes? I feel asleep last night with my phone on 30 minute sleep window I woke up and got ready and haven't touched my phone for 12 hours later and had received 7 text and 1 missed call my phone went from 99 percent to 89 percent in 12 hours after me spending all day going through all settings possible and optimizing everything.

Is this possibly a much larger battery issue for 4G service because I'm only in 3G area and my battery life is pretty close to that of my Incredible about 1-1.5 hour less total overall per full charge due to obviously a bigger screen size and much more demanding processor.

I will gladly go through and list all apps and settings I adjusted if anyone wants some suggestions feel free to PM. Honestly can't imagine anyone only getting 2 hours unless you have your brightness set to full with 20-30+ apps actively pulling information with all 3 GPS on and 5+ emails / twitter / myspace / facebook pulling every 5-15 minutes non-stop and playing rockback or watching youtube non-stop.

This phone does NOT come stock out of the box optimized for battery life but you can make some adjustments to improve it for yourself. This is something that falls on the USER if you expected 8-10 hours of battery you let yourself down by not doing enough research on this phone so please stop blaming HTC or Verizon for something that will improve if you put forth some effort and hopefully more so with software update to tweak things we can't adjust that do need mild improvements.

I chronicled my usage from a full charge yesterday which was with moderate usage and all the bells and whistles turned on or on high, which lasted about 7 hours if I recalled.

I noticed yesterday afternoon though while using wifi for my data connection to stream sme flash video for an hour that there was very minimal drain to the battery. For some reason getting a cellular data connection was difficult at the time so I just used WiFi.

This morning I turned off blockbuster updates, turned off auto sync, same left WiFi on all day and I have gotten amazing battery life. I've steamed about two hours of flash video, sent a number of texts, and a fair amount of time on Facebook and reading forums. I unplugged this morning around 6 and now twelve hours later I am still at 30% battery left.

I have WiFi at home and at the office, so I am going to toy around with seeing just how taxing the 4G is next week be going a few days with and without WiFi on all day.
