Thunderbolt Battery Complaints + Tips/Tricks

how do you schedule a sync schedule for email, facebook, google? i have auto sync and background data unchecked. i dont see where i can have it update like every hour or so. also, with these turned off, will it affect checking for SMS texting ? thx

I use the default Gmail app instead of the mail app for my Gmail.
I use the mail app for my work email on exchange with active sync.

Sorry I can't help, perhaps others can...

Honestly I dont know what you guys are talking about with the battery improvement over time. I've had it a week and seen no difference. I'm not getting more than 6 hours and.frankly I'm furious.

I bought the extended battery but I'm still upset I have to. My co worker with the EVO days she only has to charge every other day with moderate use. I wish! I'm just really sad that a phone I really love has such horrible battery life. What's the point of having a portable device when its barely portable?

Sorry I just had to vent cause I'm furious

I lowered all my settings to barely nothing and its been 8 hours with minimal use and I'm at 20%

It says display has used 70% of the battery but its only been on for 40 minutes. What a joke

Something is not right. Have you powered off your phone recently? Have you done the blockbuster fix? Do you have things constantly syncing? Have you bump charged your battery? Are you constantly in and out of cell coverage? What's your screen timeout time?

I'm at 19 hours unplugged, active time is ~3.5 hours, display is a good 2.6 hours. 19% left. Decent amount of Angry Birds, internet and 1 hour of pandora.

I did read that article. But, regardless if bump charging "works" or doesn't, I'm concerned that I never get a green light immediately when plugging in the charger, and others that do this process do.

I don't get a green light when plugging INTO the charger - It's RED and you have to wait until it turns green.

New hate topic (but still belongs in this thread)

I HATE how hard it is to get the back cover off, they sure didn't make it easy for those folks that need to swap out their dead battery for a fresh one. ;)

How many days have you had the phone? I was hating the battery life too for the first four days - it has gotten much better, I got 13 hours of moderate use (on WiFi) before I put it back on the charger at 30%. To day ways the first day I bump charged it and I only bumped it once.

I just got my Seidio 1600 battery today and I'm charging it over night for 8+ hours like they say to do. I now wish I had purchased the battery charger too. So I could charge two at once.

I've read some bad things about these batteries AFTER I had ordered it. I'm going to give it 5-6 cycles and try to let people know my results with each one - but I'm not good a documenting stuff, so don't expect a lot of detail.

My battery experience

First 2 days, I was on 25% screen brightness, turn off all syncing options, turned off GPS, no WiFi, turn off 4G internet when not using it. And I was running out of my battery quickly (after 2-3 hours), with light to moderate activity (browsing for 10 min, few text messages, few short phone calls, opening calendar occasionally). I noticed that the battery life plummeted markedly when I turned on the 4G and used the browser. I think the problem for me is clearly the 4G. Not sure if the phone is switching between 4G and 3G much, trying to find a signal, and losing battery because of that--- I didn't notice it doing it that much. I'm in a big city that has 4G.

Today for the first time, I used the 4G to 3G switch (phone info). I left the 3G on all day, and I don't have any issues with maintaining a 3G signal. I had the screen at 25% brightness. I had sync options on, and was syncing my e-mail accounts (work and Yahoo), and my calendar, on a once hourly basis. I was also syncing my weather every 3 hours. I had GPS turned off. Looked at my calendar a few times. Listened to 1 song. Checked a few emails. Didn't really use the browser. For the 1st time, I've gone throught the day without running out of battery! I had 40% left at 6 pm, which was great, but still a bit lower than I expected for light-moderate activity. I was going to put push mail on at that beginning of the day, but figure I'd do hourly syncing on 3G first to try that out.

Anyway, I noted that 4G isn't that much faster for 3G for basic tasks like e-mail, most web browsing, so not sure why I need it for those activities..... I will turn on 4G as needed, such as when I'm streaming a movie trailer....

My big question is, whether 40% left at 6 pm on a work day is good, with relatively light use (I tried not to use it much today). If I use the phone a bit more, it may be dead before I leave work. I'd have to have a charger at work, which I'm not crazy about doing. My main concern is running out of juice, and having an emergency and not being able to dial 911!! My friend with an i*hone has push mail on, and gets much better battery life than me. I'm thinking of returning it, but not sure, and getting the i*phone to get better battery life. I like having 4G as an option however. I really like the Android system, but not sure it offers me much over iPhone with respect to applications, except for Swype which I love. I don't really need the Widgets, especially since they were eating my battery up earlier when I used 4G. I'm coming from Windows Mobile 6, which sucks badly, so anything is an improvement. Also, I also don't like the weight, it's very heavy and wide. A massive difference from my HTC Touch Diamond (2.8" screen, ~ 4 ounces).

To answer your questions:
Yes I have powered off recently
I've done the blockbuster fix
I have everything syncing only every 4 hours, including friendstream

I have not bump charged yet

I live in nycso I have constant 4g whig stays connected all the time

And my screen timeout is 30 seconds.

I've spent hours.trying to customize it to he lowest settings and I've seen no change. It's very discouraging. I did order he extended battery like I said but I'm bummer I even needed to do that since its going to add bulk but is rather have more battery.

I'm beginning to wonder if something really is wrong....

Try downloading spare parts and see if there is anything keeping your phone from sleeping.

I'm at about 10 hours unplugged so far. Brightness at 20%. All syncs on except stock and news, using Twidroyd, pingchat, Juicedefender, push gmail and K9 for my live account fetching every 10 minutes and on wifi most of the time and am at 67% with moderate use. Also did the blockbuster fix. If I'm reading this right then its ~2.5 hours of use

So far it seems more than fine. With heavy use the first 2 days, i got about 6-8 hours on 4G/wifi and 21 hours on Sunday with 4G/wifi.

I wanted to report my first day with the seidio 1600 battery...

I had my phone on since 7:30am, its now 10pm and the phone just completely lost power. For the past hour I have been playing videos trying to kill the battery so I can go to sleep. I also started using a bunch of apps for the past hour and set the brightness to full. For the rest of the day I had GPS, Bluetooth on, and brightness at like 25% which is plenty bright to me. Other tasks during the day included taking about 20 photos, multiple web searches, odd facebook checks, and a number of calls. Tried to keep it as normal use as possible for me. I think this life is fine, and I had to really work the phone at the end to get it to lose power.

Being this is the first day and first full drain I see the life getting better from what I have ready about these batteries. Seidio even states on the card that comes with it that it takes a few cycles before the battery life is optimized.

Just wanted to report my experience, and that I am happy with this battery life.

Update on my experience:

Yesterday no bump charging with very light usage because I was stuck at work all day: 17 hrs unplugged, 6 hrs awake time, 30% remaining

First day of bump charging: 14 hrs unplugged, 8 hrs awake time, 23% remaining

Pretty happy with that, I was off work today so it saw some pretty heavy usage. Rearranging my home screens, new apps, new widgets, words with friends, angry birds, 1.5hrs of pandora, several voice searches, 20-30 texts, 10 phone calls, 1 hour of news reading with pulse reader.

This is bump charging without turning the phone off, just unplugged when full, then plugged back in, and repeat until my widget reads 100%. I think bump charging definitely made a difference but I'm not sure how healthy it is for the battery.

Ok, will do. What exactly is the app?

It shows you if your phone is sleeping properly sleeping as well as what is causing the phone to wake up while the screen is off (this eats battery).
You're problem seems related to your phone not sleeping.
