What steps do you recommend avoiding and doing when initially setting up the phone for use?

I've read a couple places that people recommend not doing verizons "backup assistant"

Many people also seem to be agitated when facebook contacts get synced into the contacts list, how is this avoided?

After phone is good to go I've also read to update the blockbuster app then disable it (battery life)

Any other common things to avoid or do when first getting the Tbolt off the ground?

Many thanks

Skip backup assistant for sure...and you can use Facebook if you'd like. It's pretty integrated with the Sense UI so it's a nice thing to have if you like that sort of thing.

what do you suggest to do instead of using backup assistant to transfer contacts over. I am coming from a blackberry storm if this makes any difference.

I use backup assistant on my Droid X and it runs once a day........not really a battery drain. (unless is runs differently on the Thunderbolt)

i dont understand why they want you to use backup assistant so bad, save to gmail when adding contacts, whenever you log in its there.

I'm pretty sure like my android device you should be able to go to the contacts app and press menu and their should be a option to import a vcard for your contacts.

Contacts > more> manage contacts> restore from sd card.

I set up backup assistant before reading this. How do I remove it?

Unfortunately the only way to get rid of it is to do a factory restore, which I just had to do. It isn't so bad thanks to Google backing up your apps for you just logging into all your apps and setting up your screens is all you'll have to do.

After you did the factory restore, is you flip clock working correctly. Mine won't display any weather. I made sure all location services are on but still nothing.

Use gmail and you will have your contacts ready any time in any phone.

On the bolt it won't display my weather unless I have the Google location on. Which is weird as the incredible didn't require it being on! Hmph!!!! Lol

The only reason backup assistant is draining people's battery is due to the time they have the application set to sync. By default, I believe backup assistant is set to sync all contacts in the morning from 6AM - 12PM (around the time when most people head off for work/school). However, if one would set it to sync every late night from 12AM - 6AM, then it wouldn't be wasting any battery because most likely the phone will be charging while you are asleep. However, you don't have to set it at that time - you can change it to morning, afternoon, evening, and late night, depending on when you charge your phone.

If you skip setting up backup assistant the first time, can you set it up later on if you change your mind? Thanks.
