I just upgraded from my D-Inc to the Thunderbolt. When I had my D-Inc and I used to connect it to my laptop the phone would show up as two different drives. [F:] for my D-Inc & [G:] for my SD card. Now when I plug in my Thunderbolt into my laptop only the SD card shows up; not the phone. Anyway to get them both to show up?

What happened to me is that when I connect it sometimes shows an .exe file I can run from VZW.

What I do is plug it in, on my phone it tells me what I want to do, I put sync media, and then on my computer it shows up as My HTC Phone or Device not sure

Pull down your notification bar and click on the usb symbol that should be next to a charge only.

Switch it to disk drive.

yea i installed the verizon crap first time just in cast i needed it... well still no drive or anything popped up. 2nd time i plugged in on the phone gave me options to sync mode, charge, use as drive. ect

That DInc must be an exception because usually only the SDcard, never the internal memory, is visible as a USB Mass Storage device on your PC.

Regardless, the traditional and preferred way of exploring the internal memory is through adb via the Windows command prompt/Linux terminal.

I started a thread on this last night, but of course, since it's already on page 5, no one is reading it anymore. I still haven't received a solid answer.

Are people able to access the TB's internal storage as a separate drive? I am able to see the SD card as a drive.

Thanks

Make sure you are using USB cable that came with the phone. Any old usb cable will not always work.

@San Juan, @jas o

These guys are having no issues seeing the sdcard.

They are instead talking about viewing the internal memory of the device as a mass storage drive, something that shouldn't be possible by design.

I may not have been clear, so I'll try rephrasing.

You are not supposed to be able to access the phone's internal memory as a disk drive. The only ways to access this location are via Root Explorer (and other such apps) and adb.

Let's try recalibrating here and let me ask you a question: What are you trying to achieve? We can help you complete this task or explain to you what's a better alternative if we know what you are aiming to do.

I'm trying to set it up so that the ringtones I store on my phone stay active when I plug my phone into my PC; instead of defaulting to other ringtones. That's how I had my D-Inc set up. Ringtones on the device memory and everything else on the SD card.

Well that answers my question. Thanks.

I was reading elsewhere on the web that people have been able to access both the internal drive and the SD Card as separate drives on the PC. I'm not sure if those devices had been rooted. Furthermore, my friend insists that he is able to access 2 separate drives on his Incredible.

Basically, after installing rock band, the music (and sounds) were dumped on the SD card, and Winamp sees it as music and labels it as such (Artist, etc.). I was wondering if I moved that music to the internal drive, would Winamp or another player read it differently and not populate it as an artist, album, etc. I wanted to keep the SD card clean for all my personal music.

So you are or are not supposed to see and access the phones internal storage like the Incredible? My Incredible lets me access both when its turned to Disk Drive mode.

Sooooooo.....it looks like this isn't really answered after all. Is it just the TB has this issue of not being able to access the internal storage? That's more than one person now that I have either spoken to or has mentioned on this forum that they are able to access both drives on the Incredible.

Anyone else have imput on this?

Thanks.

Again, exception, not the rule. This is not normally how a phone is supposed to operate as it is dangerous to let anyone easily access those system files casually.

To place ringtones into the system memory do the following from a command prompt:

cd <the directory where you have your ringtone>
adb push /data/local/<ringtone_name.mp3>
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system
mv /data/local/<ringtone_name.mp3> /system/media/audio/ringtones/

What this does is:
1) Push your ringtone into a temporary folder in the system memory
2) Access the system memory from a terminal (usually much safer than a GUI explorer since it is very esoteric to lay users).
3) Gain superuser access and make the /system directory writable
4) Move the ringtone from the temporary folder to the appropriate place so it can be detected as a ringtone

Hey all, I'd like to first apologize for the gravedig and if this has already been answered but I've been searching all over and this topic seemed the most relevant.

I got the HTC Thunderbolt soon after it came out, and after ignoring the whole VCast download prompts that come up, I was actually able to view the internal memory in Windows Explorer while connected to my PC. I went to the music and gallery folders and pasted in all the old files from my previous phone.

Today I just got a call and realized that my ringtone was gone. Earlier in the day I noticed my Angry Birds file was all of a sudden deleted and I needed to reinstall - I did it without thinking too much of it. My phone also twice did something where I received a call, and when I picked up it started ringing instead of answering. All weird, all today.

After the ringtone crap I searched around, and now when I click on the Music or Gallery apps, I just get an error message asking me to insert an SD card. I also took some advice and downloaded the Astro File Manager app and searched for some of the music files and couldn't find anything. Its like the whole system just up and deleted them!

Has this happened to anyone? Was there a new update that came out that wiped out my old access to the internal memory? I tried connecting to my PC again and accessing the internal memory with no luck today. I'll deal with buying the SD card if I need to, just don't want to unless I have to since I've been able to deal with the internal memory for a while both with the TB and my old Palm Pre.
