the unlimited 4g for $30 is a great deal but i don't want to lock myself in for a year with the Thunderbolt. It hasn't even been a year and I'm bored of my X

Then you shouldn't lock yourself into anything. You'll want a new device every few months.

Is it clear that it's an entirely different data plan at the same price? If so, that sucks because the T&T+D promo is gone for those of us that have it.

Telesales seemed to think it was the same "smartphone data" plan.

I think the best we can do is iterpret what Verizon said in their press release:

"With the ThunderBolt by HTC, customers will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a 4G LTE data package. Nationwide Talk plans begin at $39.99 monthly access and an unlimited 4G LTE data plan start is $29.99 monthly access."

My interpretation of that, is that there will be some soft of cap, with other plans above that price. The iPhone is doing that, I don't see why there would be an exception with the TB.

I forget, is there a 25$ activation fee when you buy the phone online? I'm trying to figure out if I want to buy it in store or online. Also, I have to pay tax online and in store right ( I know in the faq it says + sales tax but it didn't explicitly say online and in store)?

Yes, keyword "unlimited" prior to your bolded part. It is essentially the exact same data plan but they can circumvent that by just simply calling it something else like "4G" instead of "smartphone data".

Here's hoping they don't do that in the actual pricing system.

They do currently have a higher data plan for those who want to tether their phone. This could just be referring to that option. My mom does this with her Blackberry and I think her plan is for something like $49.99. I don't know if that's the same here as they do mention a $20 hot spot add-on. I think that even with my Eris, they refer to the data plans starting at $29.99 for this reason.

Lol whoops... That is an important word isn't it.

They use the same verbage in this document about 3G data plans, so maybe it's the same model where it's 29.99 for 3G without that email access add-on and 49.99 with it.

i was going through the wirefly ordering process but the cheapest monthly voice plan they had was $59.99. i pay 39.99 on verizon. why would they charge 20 extra/month or not have the cheapest plan available? i do pay 10/mo for unlimited in-network txts which is included in the $60 plan wirefly was offering, but that's still $10/mo more than i pay now.

what gives?

That's what I figured. If they classify it as the same "smartphone" plan then it shouldn't change, but they can be devious and name it a "smartphone 4G" plan and the system has to switch it over despite being same price. If that happens some of us who have the plan promo would lose it.

Regarding contract dates and eligibility.....I called Verizon today, and asked if I was eligible to get the 2 year price on the Bolt, even though my contract ends in JULY. All I have to do is pay $20 early upgrade and I'm a go!! And can buy from a store, not just online.

So is Fedex Overnight really overnight??? I live in a smaller town in AZ and I'm concerned. I'm leaving Saturday on a trip so if the phone does not come Friday (assuming I order right when it's available) then I'm screwed.
:(:(:(:(

Verizon Store

Just got off the phone with my local Verizon store. The security company I work for is doing a Sprint Store special Wednesday night into Thursday morning at the store next door to the Verizon store. I called them to ask if they will have more than one Thunderbolt in stock. She told me yes they will but can not disclose how many. I explained to her what work I will be doing the night before and the Verizon store manager replied yes you can stand in between the stores and be first in line. :)

So it looks like I will be getting one on launch since I will be at store location at 7pm on Wednesday night. :)

There are no preorders on Verizon's website (or through them at all for that matter). Your only options for preorder are through Wirefly.com or in a Best Buy store.

The Wireless Zone in Keene, NH, told me they were also taking preorders. They told me that a couple of weeks ago. They even had a dummy unit on their counter. So probably some of the premium retailers are also taking preorders.

Good deal, I'm fortunate to live with 4 stores. I swung by the first one and asked if I could make an appointment and the salesperson said first come, first served. So I went to the next and they were more than happy to set me up for first thing in the morning! :)

I just called my local verizon store and he said he "couldn't confirm that the thunderbolt was coming out thursday, however if it were to be coming out thursday they'd have plenty of them".

I called my store and, since I have to work that day, they told me that I can go first thing in the morning, purchase my two phones, and then come back later on and activate both of them. He said as of right now he is 99.9% sure there are no restrictions for the "Activate later" with this phone like there was for the i*one. I basically have 30 days to activate the phones...hahahaha no problem, I'll be there that night after work.

hahahahaha...at least he didn't say it's coming soon.
