ThunderBolt to Galaxy S3, anyone?

My 2 pennies:

If you value screen quality greatly, avoid this phone.

If screen quality isn't that big of a deal to you, and you're still holding the worst phone ever conceived in your hands still, you're doing it wrong. Promptly toss this thing into the ocean and activate your brand spankin' new GS3 and enjoy.

Unfortunately for me screen quality is a huge issue and Pentile is a no-no for me. In the future however when a Samsung phone hits the Verizon market and has Super AMOLED Plus HD, well I'm gonna jump on that thing in a heartbeat at full phone price. Never renewing my Verizon contract again for life, so that means $650 phone price tags for the rest of my foreseeable future :O

But being seriously OCD I can't give up my unlimited data. You can't have it Verizon.

i know some people really hate pentile. i thought it was going to be a big deal, but honestly, although the HD screen on my Rezound is better, the gs3 screen is fine, and, imo, substantially better than the tbolt. i think the vast majority of people think that the gs3 screen is a good screen. sorry to hear that you feel opposite.

you can still buy used phones, or cpo phones (which carry same as new 1 year warranty) and keep unlimited data.

had the sgs3 last week, proordered to keep unl data with one last upgrade, and sold it the next day. I don't think there is a phone better than the tbolt for keeping a strong 4g signal and forcing it to stay on 4g. I use it as my home internet it's so good. Hoping this trusty bad boy lasts me a good 2 more years

I am blown away by the S3!

Tbolt was/is a great device. I still have 2 active on my family plan. But I wasn't going to pass up my last subsidized upgrade and keep unlimited data.

I am thrilled I made the jump. What a beautiful beast the S3 is.

And, I now have a 4.2 inch wifi tablet added to my Android device collection.

To be completely honest, after my recent bout with data drops and the ensuing frustration, not to mention the itch for a new toy, I started to seriously consider and look at the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3. But the more I look at it, the more I appreciate the Thunderbolt. My thoughts as I look at the S3:

- No native kickstand – a feature I use all the time (really don’t want a case, prefer naked)
- Physical home button – ugh, reminds me of the iPhone
- Pentile display: I’m one whose eyes always notice it and it bothers me
- Choice of colors: only blue or white neither of which I care for
- Glossy plastic back; finger print magnet (would drive me crazy!) and slippery
- Touch Wiz is still not as polished or intuitive as Sense and overall feels jumbled (don’t like third party launchers either)
- Need new accessories for the S3 (extra cost and time finding them): holster with kickstand case, couple extra standard batteries (don’t see an option for an extended battery)

Considering all that and the fact I’d have to pay full retail to keep unlimited data, I just can’t justify it. Besides, the occasional bout of data drops (been good for two days now since the recent bout) is the only problem I have with the Thunderbolt and by all accounts the issue appears network specific, not the phone itself, so a new phone isn’t necessarily going to resolve it.

The blue SG3 is beautiful. The screen is gorgeous. Amazon has an excellent case/holster/kickstand for $20, the Aduro.

If you are in weaker signal areas, the rez and razr would likely give better signal. Of course, if you are in a strong signal area, then it would not really matter. My friend has a tb, I have a rez now, and quite often the tb won't have signal where the rez would.

Yeah im seriously considering the rezound as ive heard it gets great reception. Do you experience data drops on it? Does it stay locked into 4g in fringe areas or does it easily switch to 3g? Doe is have the microsim by chance?

In my experience, it is better, but will still switch to 3g.of course, you could force 4g mode, but, if it drops 4g then you are stuck with 1x or nothing. If you are in a fringe area, you want to be in 3G anyway, 4G is very slow and very flaky in fringe areas, at least based on my usage. The rezound uses a standard sim, same as tb.

So you can force 4g on the rezound? Thats good to know thats what im looking for. Ill probably pick one up

Edit: dam just found out it doesnt take microsim. I might just stick with thunderbolt :/

Yes, you can force 4G, just use the "LTE ONOFF" app in the play store and change to lte only with voice. You would either get 4G or 1x or nothing, but it would never connect to 3G. I use this sometimes on my Rez, and it seems to help at times. Standard sim on the Rez though, same as tbolt. it won't work with microsim, unless you use an adapter.
