Thunderbolt Wallpaper question

Ok maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why the TB's wallpaper works the way it does.

The screen's resolution is 480x800, but when you try to select a wallpaper for the phone, it forces you into a resolution "crop box" of 800x960..

Why can't I just set my photos that are 480x800 as the wallpaper, so it fits perfectly behind my home page??

It's because the phone stretches the wallpaper so that it covers all 7 screens, with some overlap.

You mean to have the background be "static"? I know you can do this with third party launchers, but I don't believe it's an option in Sense.
