Thunderbolt Wallpaper Size Question

What size wallpaper can I use without it asking me to crop it?

I have tried many sizes and every time it has asked me to crop my picture. I have tried 960x800, 960x854, 600x480 (which was terribly stretched) and a few other sizes, all of which ask to be cropped. And it is not even like the crop goes all the way up and down or left to right. The only picture that did crop all the way from top to bottom had a resolution of 2538x1000.

Any idea oat size I can use so I can make my own wallpapers? Thanks.

I'd love to see what the answer is for this as well. I'd love to get my own wallpapers on my phone.

960x800 is the size. When it asks you to crop it, you can re-size the green box to encompass the entire picture and not actually crop anything. I did it myself and it looks sharp. You just have to touch on the right or the left side when "cropping" and it will make the green box able to be re-sized.

Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh . . . I was just doing pinch to zoom type action. I didn't realize you had to touch the edges. Thanks a lot.

Thank you for that!

I sure wish I knew why, on a portrait format phone, the crop tool for Wallpaper would be in landscape format?!? You still can't get the whole image.

enfuego, I have attached a few pics where I tested the 960x800 and it seems to work pretty good. I appologize for the pic quality but I just wanted to show you real quick. I just took a .png pic I had on my comp, made a 3 minute wallpaper, changed it to the dimensions, and emailed to myself then use it as a wallpaper.

The reason for this is the picture actually encompasses all 7 homescreens and actually scrolls across as you go from screen to screen. Otherwise, you would have a stationary background and only the widgets and icons would scroll, or you would have a separate picture for each screen.

When I first set up my TB, the wallpaper from my Droid 1 automatically installed. Yesterday I was playing around with other wallpapers and want to go back to what I had before, but I am unable to. I'm using LauncherPro Plus. I've tried doing a long press on the homescreen, pressing Wallpapers, Gallery, and Astro. I select the file and get a message saying it has been applied as my wallpaper, but it doesn't change. I've also tried navigating directly through Astro, doing a long press on the file, and selecting Save As, Wallpaper. Same results. I have been able to select other wallpapers, just not the one I want. I know it works, because I've been using it since the release date. I thought it might be the resolution, but it's 960x854. That should be fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

and it is still too large did I do something wrong?

Well you'll only have her midsection on the homescreen and have to scroll left or right to get the rest. I started with a blank screen at 960x800 and then addd the darth maul picture. Look at the wallpaper itself on my post and then look at where darth maul's face is on the homescreen.

Because the wallpaper covers all 7 home screens, which makes it wider than it is tall.

isnt there an app to just make a pic fit one home screen? if there isnt someone should make one to eliminate this bs. even a blackberry could put any pic as your homescreen!

I wanted her face on the main home screen.... just as yours looks.

Start with a blank slate that is 960x800 in whatever color you want (I assume red, black or combo). Then copy and paste that picture of yours on it. Then resize the devil chick picture so that her face is right in the middle of the wallpaper and a little low. You'll have to compensate for the clock widget at the top if you have one. Don't worry about the bottom of it too much because your homescreen (the little apps arrow, phone button, and personalize button) are at the bottom of your homescreen and will coverup any dead space. Again look at how the Darth Maul is on the first picture; he's low and to the right and then look at how it is on my screen. When I added it as a wallpaper and it wants you crop the picture I just adjusted and really cropped it to use the whole thing.

Thanks. I don't like it but now at least I know. Sounds like the right way to go about it is to make a HORIZONTAL picture of 960x800. That way you should be able to get all of it into the crop with the middle portion hitting on your Main (middle) Home screen. Now I know why Cyber Warrior's sampling of wallpapers were horizontal! :) Well, I thought it was Cyber Warrior, I can't find the post now.
