Thunderbolt will not charge at all

I would never use Verizon brand chargers. Overpriced trash. I paid like 3 bucks for a Motorola brand car charger from Amazon and it is of higher quality than the crap that Verizon sells.

I bought an oem Palm car charger for $4 shipped, it works fine as well, any 5v micro usb charger will work, but I recommend a quality one that can give 5v/1a. Some chargers give less than 1a, and will still work, but will charge at a slower rate, even perhaps at less than power draw, depending on usage.

I think I'm going to buy that $5 charger. :)

Well I would normally agree. But the port wasn't fitting. I had to get a different one

I had the same issue. Tbolt stopped taking a charge. I tried 3 chargers (house and car) with no luck. Confirmed that the usb connector on the phone died by buying Amazon.com: Hyperion HTC Thunderbolt 4G 2x1500mah Battery + Charger (Also compatible with HTC Merge, MyTouch 4G, and Lexikon): Cell Phones & Accessories . This allows me to charge batteries externally and swap when dead. Always have a spare in the charger. This will get me through until I get my next Android. (Disclosure: Link is my associate link)

I strongly believe in and highly recommend using an external charger (with a couple spare batteries you can swap out as needed). It greatly reduces the wear and tear on the USB port not to mention wear on the phone internals having to charge a battery (think heat build up).

I've been using the following Seidio Multi-Function Battery Charger for over a year with great success:
