Tiered Data and MHS/MBBC

Yeah but I've seen the different codes and know how the system works... I understand that you are saying that the document might state different but trust me 3g data plan code won't work on 4G phones therefore forcing u to change ur data plan. At this moment obviously if you do that it won't matter because unlimited still exists, but I can tell you this by experience with previous grandfathered plans. I'm not bashing VZW or anyone, I just really suggest a lot if anybody has an upgrade and is looking on getting a 4G phone do it. I'm just trying to help :)

This is not correct, you WILL be able to keep the unlimited data when upgrading.

Not disputing any internal knowledge you may have from your past experience, but even if the coding is different, technically, it seems to me that VZW could still allow these codes to be seamlessly swapped on the "unlimited" billing side of the house.

Frank, you are correct!

according to the leaked docs, it says that you will be able to keep unlimited data when upgrading, for now and with no end date currently set. So, yes, you can keep unlimited data when upgrading, the question is, how long.

As of right now if I use mobile hotspur on my thunderbolt will additional charges be applied to me? Does anyone have a link to documentation to confirm if free hotspot and mmbc is still going on?

Not according to Verizon as of 6:00pm yesterday. My scenario:

I currently have an Incredible with an unlimited data plan. I am 13 months into my 2 year contract. I will be grandfathered in to the unlimited plan upon renewal in 11 months. However, if I upgrade to a 4G phone my 4G data plan will be on the tiered plan.

The salesperson had her supervisor double check, then the supervisor called someone else, and that was the final determination.

As I expect to move to a 4G phone in the future, my only recourse to have a grandfathered 4G plan was to upgrade before July 7th. It was stated numerous times that if I plahned on upgrading to a 4G phone after July 7th, I would fall into the tiered plan.

As more and more services are becoming cloud-based, cell data will increase in importance and 2GB/month will be not be as much as it is today. My normal usage on my Incredible is about 1.2GB/month, but I use WiFi as much as possible to get better speeds. With 4G being faster than most of the WiFi connections I can use, I will use that more often and my usage rates will increase.

Existing customers can keep their current pricing when renewing or upgrading.

Read the first post int his thread. MHS/MBBC are not plan add under the new system so you will have to switch to the new data plan pricing to get them. There is no existing pricing for this (we have been getting it free) so there is no existing MHS/MBBC to be grandparent in.

Exactly. From all I read, MHS/MBBC will no longer be available as a $20 add on feature, but instead embedded into a set of data plans.

However, based upon how Verizon normally does business with anything that changes like this, anyone whom currently has that $20 add on will keep it as it is, however if you remove it an re-add it, you will have to go to the new tiered data.

But wouldn't that exclude all of the 4G devices since they have been saying (almost*) since the Thunderbolt launch that it didn't apply to 4G devices and we have all been getting it for free?

*When the TBolt first launched there were these little signs advertising the free hot spot in the fine print it said that it was gonna be $20 but since then these have disappeared from stores,
