Tiered Data possible this summer - From Verizon

I used 27Gb last month of 4G WiMax. That would probably be like 3000 VZW dollars. IF Verizon still offers unlimited, I'll bet it's in the 60-80 dollar range when they go tiered. I'll also bet that the steps are like one of those links showed like $10.00 for 150mb with them knowing 90% of people will go over that.

10.00 = 150mb
20.00 = 1Gb
30.00 = 2Gb
50.00 = 5Gb
80.00 = Unlimited*
*= Not to exceed 10Gb or data will be throttled back

Was that all on your phone? Or was that tethering or using a modem?

Why would you hope for this? Any talk of tiered pricing means that anyone above people who use their phones to just email are going to get destroyed on monthly fees

He's talking about tiered SPEEDS. That would actually be a pretty brilliant move. If you only have a basic LTE plan and don't use tethering, anything more than 10mb/s would be useless because the phone can't render webpages that fast, and most apps don't need speeds that fast.

I understand he's talking about speeds. But it's the same thing, the heaviest users will want the fastest speeds. Anyone who would classify themselves as a heavy user is not going to sit at a lower speed when something faster is available. I mean cmon. We're techies, we always need the best, the brightest, and the fastest.

In the very first one of the links that popped up (I think it was the bank or investment group one he was talking to) where he laughed and said "Everyone knew this wasn't long-term" he simply said they would be moving to tiered data plans.

Nothing mentioned about speed.

From that article. "Shammo told investors at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom conference Tuesday that these upcoming tiered pricing plans could be based upon consumption or speed differentiation, or both. "We are still working on the models," he said."

So speed was mentioned, in passing.
