Tiered Data possible this summer - From Verizon

exactly why i'm confused haha. it scares me to think of tiered pricing, especially if it goes above $30

I am not scared because if it goes anything more then $29.99 per month for data then I am going to other providers.

Edit: ie the decision will be very easy.

I live in an area where it isn't an option to leave carriers and have any type of reception what-so-ever

It's undeniable that Verizon provides the best service

From later in the article:

Today, Verizon Wireless offers a 5GB a month plan for $50 and 10GB for $80.

Really?

yea, if it's that much on phones, I will have no interest in 4g, 3g is fast enough for me

what would be GREAT would be if they put 4g at $30 and dropped the price of 3g

I don't like all this tiered stuff with caps

Dropped the price??

hahahahahaha... whew... that's a good one

In my area At&T has good coverage (not very good but good enough for me). Sprint & T-mobile is also not bad. So I wouldn't think one second and just move to different provider, I don't want to pay more then $30 for data.

?LTE also gives us the capability to price very differently than we priced before. Not just on consumption, but also possibly on speed differentiation" - Fran Shammo

I'm hoping for this. Unlimited data and a premium based on what speeds you would prefer.

Why would you hope for this? Any talk of tiered pricing means that anyone above people who use their phones to just email are going to get destroyed on monthly fees

If you look at the quote I referenced, I am hoping that any "tiers" that are set up are based on speed, and not usage. Verizon is in a unique position to do this because of the drastic difference of speed in between their 3G and 4G.

That said, I'll wish upon a star that everything stays 29.99 unlimited. :p

You just know Verizon's version of grandfathered in means the only way to keep $30 a month will be to get all future phones off contract at full price.

This might mean Verizon will do a cheaper plan anywhere from 1gig to 2 gig for $20-$25 per month which work for me cause I'll be using wifi mostly

Well the Thunderbolt has the LTE radio but that doesn't mean anything without the SIM card.Verizon could argue that the Bolt is the first LTE "capable" smartphone and that to enjoy 4G you need to "piggy back" an LTE plan(w/SIM) onto the standard Android Data Plan.In VZW's plan owning an LTE "capable" plone does not automatically enable it's user access to the LTE network.

Every seems to assume that Verizon tier plans means that they will do what AT&T and get rid of unlimited. Verizon could very well keep the $30 unlimited plan and add tiers for less data and for less money as a way to get people who would buy a dumb phone to get a smartphone instead.

I used 27Gb last month of 4G WiMax. That would probably be like 3000 VZW dollars. IF Verizon still offers unlimited, I'll bet it's in the 60-80 dollar range when they go tiered. I'll also bet that the steps are like one of those links showed like $10.00 for 150mb with them knowing 90% of people will go over that.

10.00 = 150mb
20.00 = 1Gb
30.00 = 2Gb
50.00 = 5Gb
80.00 = Unlimited*
*= Not to exceed 10Gb or data will be throttled back
