I was really hoping to see the lag, drag , and stutters disappear in ICS but it doesn't appear to be. Yes I am being very picky and I have not seen a Android that didn't lag in some way. I find it very fustrating. I have had hands on with a lot of different phones including WP7.5 , iOS, and many versions of Android.

I hope you realize that the software they had at the event wasn't official. There were still some bugs in it. But NOW Google has had some time to fix the bugs in the Official version of ICS.

Yeah, so far of all the hands on and review videos I found on YouTube, all the GNs seem to have different version of the software installed on them. On some of the videos, the GNs look extremely snappy.

I don't expect it to be iPhone 4S snappy, but I expect it to be significantly smoother than the previous versions of Android.

I have owned the SGS II and I call BS on there being any lag. I switched to the Skyrocket for LTE in DC, and that is a great phone. When the GN comes out, pick it up and if it sucks, take it back within the return window. I plan to get one because I have 2 lines. I imported it though; I'm on AT&T.

I remember seeing this on TIMN(or the verge now) and honestly the video that was with the article showed little to no lag at all. They also said in a later podcast different versions of ICS were at the event.

Just last week I spent a few hours with 3 different SGS II phones and they all showed lags between home screens and scrolling in browser and app drawer. Saw it for my self thank you.

I guess I don't understand why everyone is so caught up with lag. ios lags some depending on the tasks. Even if it moved ahead in time (negative lag) I still wouldn't want an iPhone
There is more to the value and greatness of a phone than just how much it lags.

It bothers me, that simple. Now if I were going to pay $50 for the phone it wouldn't bother me so much. For $200-300 it needs to be right out of the box. In most cases Android is not, at least so far.

Don't get me wrong, I love android leaps and bounds over iOS or mango. Despite those screen lags, there's much more to the os and its phones than that smoothness. However, my frustration comes in when I realize just how smooth those other UIs are and wonder what is it exactly that is preventing android from being just as smooth? Surely I can live with an occasional lag, i just don't understand why it wouldn't be a thing of the past by now. especially a demo phone which probably has minimal or no apps installed, it is strange to see it stutter. anyways, this is just an observation. I will most likely still be getting the GN, hoping that the final product is more polished than these test units

The only reason ios and mango are smoother than android is because they both have hardware acceleration. No current android version for phones has hardware accelerarion. That is one of the benefits of ICS. People think that just because Android lagged in the past, that its going to lag in every version. And in someway that is true. In another way its not true at all. What annoys people are the huge and constant periods of lag time. But then we have short, non frequent lags that happen in EVERY os. So, my main point is that since ICS brings hardware acceleration lag will be greatly reduced. P3Droid said in his review that the os was very smooth and felt like no other version of android but as polished and finished as ios. Just my little talk on lag to everyone who complains about it.

I'm going to have to call bs on that one. Unless you were playing with the t mobile sgs2, then it is understandable. Side by side with a Iphone4s it moves just as smooth, and opens apps just as quick. Yes I did it side by side with myself, not watch it on youtube. I can say the same thing supporting the exact opposite of what you claim, and tons of other exynos sgs2 owners will support my claim.

Yeah. I've tried the SGS2 and did not see lag on it at all.

Because all androids do have lag. if you can't tell you are delusional. Even the SGS2 has alittle bit of lag, but barely.

I"m not surprised the galaxy nexus has lag. You honestly thought the OMAP 4460 was a better chip than the exynos? Or I should say ...I'm not surprised the galaxy nexus is claimed to have lag.

No device is perfect. Remember that. Will ICS stutter occasionally? I'm sure it will. But, by all indications ICS will be the smoothest Android OS yet.

Imo no one is gonna be able to judge lag until an account is set up, widgets fired up on the desktop, and the myriad of on going processes functioning on a typical phone. Some of these demos and impressions are next to useless since you can see there is not much going on or installed to slow down the phone. When I rooted and installed SSM V3 on my X it was lightning fast on boot up and general functions. When apps and processes were reinstalled, the quickness of the phone showed a distinct change. No surprise.

+1. Lag is on all guesture-based devices. The better ones minimize lag.

Of the Androids I have owned I saw the most lag on Moto (Droid X) and the least on HTCs (Incredible, TBolt). I suspect that Sense as a UI has been specially cooked to address lag. TouchWiz has had lag sometimes but the version on the Galaxy Tab is really fluid.

As to iOS not lagging, my brother has an iPhone 4 and it stutters occasionally - on a phone with both hardware acceleration and no live content on the homescreens. The most impressive one is WP7 which has live content (those tiles dish up live content) but is still not laggy at all. But I still prefer my Thunderbolt (for now - who knows there may be a Nexus in my future).
