Time without a signal

So my battery life is utter crap all of a sudden and I finally was able to get to the battery stats without a force close and it said cell standby was about 20 percent. I looked at the stats and it says out of the 11hours the phone was on 50% of the time it had no signal. I know for a fact I was only at work and home and I get full service in both places. Could this be sapping my battery life away? Why os it saying I had no signal?

Are you on airplane mode by accident? That would cut off your signal.

No I wasn't. Ive never used airplane mode on my phone. I really love this phone but between gps problems, stock email problems and battery problems im really getting annoyed. I wish motorola just made the hardware and left the os strictly to google. Let me choose to add the crap they loaded on this. I hate being forced to deal with junk I didn't want on my phone.

Airplane mode makes the phone quit looking for a signal so that should not be the culprit. Airplane mode completely turns off the CDMA radio and the phone does not try to acquire a signal until you exit airplane mode.

That being said I've seen this issue whenever I put my phone inside the metal lockers in the gym. However, the original poster has a large percentage of time looking for a signal. Is it possible that there was a local outage where you live or work (cell tower down)?

I reset my phone before I went to bed and it was on the charger. Unless there was an outage while I was sleeping bc it wasn't during the time I was awake.

What battery mode are you using? Any kind of saver mode will stop your phone from syncing at specified times...this could be it...

It was set on performance mode so it shouldn't have shut down.

Try a* 228 option one and two

I usually do that once a month but it may be that time to try it again. Id love to see what the stats say now but I can't get past the force close after I tap the battery icon. I know its a bug but how long are we to wait for this crap.

Gotcha....performance mode could be why your battery life sucks, PS

I have all my data programs set to manual sync. My email checks every half hour and my beautiful widgets checks only when I wake the screen. My screen brightness is also set at the lowest setting and bt wifi are always off. The only thing performance mode does is let the data sync all day. I used to have it at nightime setting but that only changed it at night when the phone was charging which made no sense. I don't want the phone to stop syncing bc i need it to check email. Would it continue to check email if I set to to batt save mode?

Why not just have it turn off data around midnight or 1 (whenever you go to bed) and have it turn on an hour before you wake up. You don't really need it to be checking emails all night unless you're waking up at 3am to check, in which case you can just do a manual refresh.

When I first got the phone I used the default email client and had it checking every hour and I was barely getting a days worth out of the phone.

I switched over to GMail and used push and now I take my phone off the charger around 9am for my first class and by midnight I'm rarely below 60% if I didn't get bored in class and start playing games.

The battery on this phone is pretty spectacular, two days is easy with 40 or so texts and a couple short phone calls a day.

As long as you don't need to be browsing the web, watching movies, or playing games throughout the day. The solution to most peoples battery problems is back off the use of the display and internet.

The work around for the Eris that would do that all the time was to put the phone in airplane mode and let it go to sleep for about 5 minutes.

I charge my phone every night so that setting won't do me any good. I just have to shut gps off until they fix that bug.

There's a known bug in android (since 1.5 on cdma) where the cellular radio won't go into standby. Kills your battery.

After a reboot/battery pull just let the phone boot, put it into airplane mode (hit the power button and select airplane mode) wait for the icon to change and then turn airplane mode off.

I dont know why, I dont know how - and it doesnt seem to happen to every phone. But it's happened on my X, my D1, Incredible and Eris.

Ever since I've stared doing the 'airplane' trick I make it about 18 hours on heavy heavy use with the stock battery.
