Tip about launcher performance

I find that 0.5 is better than off for the animation settings.

Why? On my Droid Turbo I had set it to off (as I had it on my Droid Maxx) but it screwed up the dialer for some reason. The actual dialpad screen wouldn't stay displayed. I discovered the animations setting was why and set it to .5.

There is no such issue on the G4 with the setting off. I haven't noticed any other adverse effects, either. What am I missing that makes .5 better (I don't give a rip about animations).

On my note2 there was some app that wouldn't run, but I don't remember which. And I'm pretty sure when I was setting up my G4 I tried turning them off and there was an app that wouldn't run... sorry, I don't remember exactly what was failing. Anyways, now that I know that there are at least some apps that won't run correctly, I guess I don't want to have the animation scale be a factor in whether or not my apps run.

If having them off works for you then I guess you're good to go :)

I know this is a really open ended question, but why do some of you like the Nova launcher better than the stock LG launcher? I guess more specifically, does the phone seem smoother/faster to you on Nova? I ask because I'm considering trying it...I'm just so tired of setting up home screens.

Thanks for any input!

I like using different icon packs and you need a launcher to use them. I also like customizing the dock so I can use just one clean home screen and still have many apps displayed by scrolling the dock.

My setup in nova is saved and easier to defer to than starting from scratch. It is snappy and aesthetically better to my eyes than stock.

OK, I bought Prime and installed it...very smooth. I did notice that both the double tap when the phone is asleep wakes it up and a double tap on the vol down button still launches the camera app. I didn't think that worked on Nova unless you made some custom settings???

So if the lg designed the launcher on kit kat would I be saving battery life by switching to an older version of nova that was also designed on kit kat?

I've never timed them in a footrace, but if I did I figure the stock launcher is probably faster. That said, Nova is by no means sluggish in my experience. The reason I am loyal to it is for personalization not performance (though if it sapped performance I wouldn't be loyal).

First, I hate the stock icons. They are dumb. Make up your freaking mind about the style. Is it bordered or just the object of the icon (i.e. the phone). They just don't go well together. I also hate that the search bar has been forced upon us. I guess that can be removed now...but you still can't use the space? LOL.

There's a lot that is great about Android, and frankly, a lot I find almost juvenile. A lot of the stock launcher's vibe is in the latter category for me.

It's mainly about aesthetics.

You may have inspired me here. I haven't had a scrolling dock in quite a while. Just a couple icons on either side of the app drawer icon. Maybe I'll fool around with adding another dock page(?) again.
