If you ever are in an area with bad Sprint service, this little tip will help you out. I am working on developing an application that I will incorporate into my ROM to make this process easier, but for the time being I thought I would share this tid bit of information with the community.

Requirements:
-LauncherPro or ADW launcher.
-Fingerless gloves.

EDIT: For those ADW users out there, Brooose found a way for you to achieve this!
The short cut works in ADW as well. Just select "Custom Shortcut" after a long press on the screen and follow the rest of the original instructions.

EDIT: Make sure your PRL is updated!

Instructions:
  1. Make sure you are in LauncherPro.
  2. Press: Menu -> Add -> Shortcuts -> Activites -> com.lge.LgHiddenMenu -> ServicesLG.
  3. Name the activity whatever you would like, but "Hidden Menu" will do.
  4. Open the activity you made.
  5. Go to: CDG2 -> Field Tests -> Roam Preference.
  6. Choose Roam Only.

*To disable force roaming follow the instructions but on step 6 choose Any.*

Enjoy!

Hi, so should you only turn this on when you plan on roaming or can you leave this setting on at all time?
Thanks.

Only turn it on when you need it because Sprint's roaming contract with Verizon and some other carriers only allow them to use 1xrtt (or whatever it's called) data.

I have times when I only have 1 bar sprint signal, and it occasionally flicks over to roam, which will have more bars. This is annoying, because it's constantly going back and forth, and making calls while on the weak Sprint signal causes dropped calls, etc. In that situation, I'd lock it into Roam so it stops trying to connect to the weak sprint signal.

Unfortunately I know nothing about developing Android applications, but hey I knew nothing about making ROMs 3 weeks ago.

silly question, but does my phone need to be root'ed to see the com.lge.LgHiddenMenu menu? I am using ADW on an unrooted epic and cant find the menu.

Sorry this is only for the Optimus line of phones. I'm sure my PRL hack works for the Epic though.
