TNW posts their Galaxy S5 review

No, the software is the most important thing honestly. I had a GS4 and I sold it and bought a Moto X, mostly because of Touchwiz.

I was just bustin your chops man, my apologies. I agree, Software should be top priority for anyone.

Pro videographers would not be using a camera phone to record 4k video.

Pro videographers would not be using a camera phone to record stabilized 2K video. So again, what does this prove? Your arguments are strange. 4K is an added, undeniable benefit.

My arguments are strange to you because you have a problem with reading comprehension. Once again, go back and read. He brought up professional use.

Why take the extra steps to fix stabilization issues when it can be done natively on the device? You keep bringing up mounting the phone to eliminate shake. I already know this but who carries around a tripod or monopod everywhere they go. By the time you get it set up, the moment is gone. I want to be able take my phone out and hit record and share it without having to first download it to my computer and edit it to make it halfway decent enough to view. Not to mention, one would need a pretty powerful rig to edit a 4k video. Look, you're not talking to a rookie. Stabilization does not get rid of all movement but it does help. Pro videographers would not be using a camera phone to record 4k video. They would be using professional equipment that have OIS and steadicam rigs to cut down on editing time to fix camera shake. Having to use digital software stabilization post process greatly increases the chances of rolling shutter which pretty much destroys the footage. No thank you. Why take that chance when shake can be reduced with OIS. Why can't you understand that some type of onboard stabilization would improve the camera. Stop making excuses for Samsung. They throw in so many features on their devices but no stabilization when other manufacturers can do it. Why is that? Most Note 3 and S5 users are not gonna be pro videographers so you can stop bringing up professional use. I know what can be done with 4k video footage but most casual users won't have rigs that can edit 4k files or even take the time to edit some random video footage. I understand the Note 3 has been out since last September but what about the GS5? Would having onboard stabilization to 4k video capture hurt or improve the camera? I think we all know the answer.

Because OIS is not good enough for sports. The phone or camera needs to be mounted.

It's that simple, and not hard to understand.

Where? I said using pro video apps. I said media savvy smartphone users. I said pros have reviewed the 4K quite well.

Where did I say Spielberg would use a Note 3 for his next movie?

During sporting events where you can prepare your equipment such as a tripod, OIS wouldn't be a necessity. I'm referring to casual users who use their phone for random handheld shots at the spur of the moment where onboard stabilization would improve the footage.

I can pan pretty smoothly during sporting and motorsports events with OIS and handheld. A tripod would help with arm fatigue if I planned on continuously recording of the majority of the event.

Why are you so against onboard stabilization? It could only improve the camera. Wouldn't it be nice to know it's there as an option if you decide to enable it?

I'm referring to myself. It's not a sporting event. It's me recording my own practices so I can load it into video analysis and use it as a basis for improvement later on. I use 4K for recording short spurts to get detailed screen caps. If I was recording an entire routing/program to share as 1080p I would definitely use 4K and then down scale and stabilize in premier for a better output than you'd get from. A G2 Pro using 1080p with OIS recording. The quality bump is worth it

For general analysis I always record 1080p at 60 fps so that I have more precision in scrubbing and frame stepping (and the video is much clearer than 30fps video in Analysis apps, less ghosting etc. )

I'm not against on board stabilization. I just found it wildly lacking in the One and G2 so I'm over it. the video still had quite a bit of shake so why give up 4K capabilities for a gimmick (given how it performed).

It's also nice to have 4K if you decide to use it. You seem to have a very one-sided way of discussing these things.

In any case, I'm done discussing cause we've pretty much covered all bases here.

Sorry, you're right, I took this from a totally different direction. Pretty dumb.

BTW, I've seen some people claim the S5 has no IS for 4K. That's not true. There is IS, yes it's not optical, but it can be enabled in 4K too.

I am surprised that Engadget and Gizmodo has not posted their reviews yet.

Both those sites have usually come out with their reviews earlier than street date.

You can settle. I guess I just have higher standards.

Nobody "needs" 4k. It's a luxury.

It can be stabilized post processing if you want to feel like your tripping on acid.

Ultimately, what matters is what I want and what I want is a stabilization of 4k video recording. You can't deny that stabilization will improve the camera. The LG G Pro 2 will have 4k video recording with Optical Image Stabilization Plus.

just saying, OIS or not, LG phones produce terrible quality video. it can be 4k, it can be 40000k, it's going to look like garbage. the videos the G2 makes are by far some of the WORST quality videos i've ever seen, with no detail, and terrible blur and focus issues. the G Pro 2 somewhat improved it, but it's still crap in anything that isn't direct sunlight. sure, you can have a somewhat stable video from OIS, but in LG's case, you'll lack any bit of quality and detail that Samsung will provide. my GS3 captures better video than my G2 does..part of the reason why I'm getting a GS5; i can't take the G2's camera anymore. it's just utter trash.

Nokia has implemented OIS nicely. Why can't Samsung?

They feel it isnt necessary, HTC removed OIS as they felt it wasn't necessary when software can do a similar job. It wasnt compatible with duo camera either but they wouldn't have removed OIS if it was extremely necessary.

The more I see of this phone, and I made another trip to Best Buy today specifically to use it again, the more impressed I am. They really did listen to the people and refined a lot of things from the S4. I ordered the black back plate today with the wireless charging included. With that added, there's little this phone can't do. I'm still not going to get rid of my Nexus 5, but this phone is definitely worth grabbing.
