To buy or not to buy the Pixel XL

Haha! Great! I'm still paranoid about leaving Apple for Android again!
Well this is the closest to the iPhone you will get on the Android side. It really is an awesome phone. I don't feel like I'm using an Android device. I know how it feels initially once you leave Apple but if you give it a chance I think you will enjoy it. Are you keeping your iPhone? I remember you saying you had the 6s plus..Did you end up jumping to the 7?

I'll keep it while I'm testing the Pixel. But I don't have the money to keep both. Otherwise I would. And I never picked up a 7, still on the 6s Plus.

Now I want a red iPhone

That red iPhone is pretty awesome looking. I just don't think I could go back to apple at this point. I have been on Android for a little over a year now and I like it a lot compared to iOS. The customization is amazing. The only thing I missed from Apple was battery life and the smoothness of the OS but the Pixel solved those two issues for me.

Yep I agree. I just want it because it's red and it's different. But I know once I settle in with it that the novelty will wear off. Plus I heard that the only OLED iPhone coming out will be a large size and that is kind of disappointing to people like me who think the 4.7" is too small and their 5.5" is too big.

We will have to wait an see I guess. It could be an interesting year for the iPhone being the 10th anniversary.

So my nexus 6 is on its last legs. Battery life is abysmal and crazy crazy lag. I don't want to root it (i'm on Fi). So i guess its time to get the pixel xl. I can't find a cheaper plan then Fi (about 25 USD post taxes), I don't use that much data as i'm mostly on WIFI.
Would you guys think of dropping that kind of money in the current time frame with launch of S8 around the corner? How much do you like the phone as of today?

There's always another flagship coming 'around the corner,' so I wouldn't let that deter you. If you're looking to make a purchase now, coming from the N6, you will be floored by how good the Pixel XL is (that's the upgrade path I took, having skipped the N6p). I was very concerned about the drop in screen size, but that hasn't been an issue. If there's one thing I really miss from the N6, it's the speakers, but the Pixel XL's speaker is certainly serviceable, and it more than makes up for it in pretty much every other respect (N6 battery would squeak through a day for me on its last legs, Pixel XL keeps 30%+; WiFi speeds are faster; LTE (on T-Mobile) is faster, so I'd expect same from Fi at least sometimes; much easier to manage being slimmer; etc.

But the most basic reason I'd say go with the Pixel XL over the S8 when the consideration at hand is 'dropping that kind of money' is that you'd have to switch to an alternative provider that would cost you more every month to go to the S8.

The only other device I'd suggest is another N6 (couple hundred dollars) if you were otherwise pleased with it to hold you over another 6-7 months till you can give consideration towards the Pixel XL2. I'm thinking your N6 is the exception, not the rule, as mine's battery was lasting easily as long after two years (partly by help of Doze) as it did when I bought it, and never gained lag.

I am in this quandary right now. I had a Pixel (not XL) at one time and loved the speed and smoothness of it. The cons were the size, bluetooth issues in my car, and the "halo" or "cloudy" pictures I would have more often than not.

So I went with a Moto Z Force Droid and while it has been a solid phone with a great (albeit much slower) camera, I run into too many quirks with it. For one, 32 base storage isn't enough. So I tried adoptable storage which works great but I tend to run into camera quirks and I think it is because of adoptable storage.

So considering the Pixel XL with 128 now due to having "pure" internal storage. Just wary of the "halo" photos and Bluetooth issues. And yes, I would actually miss the mods on the Moto Z Force (I have the battery pack mod, JBL Speaker and several back covers.)

Though decision...though since camera is very important (and I cringe when taking video on Z Force, expecting a crash), I may give up some of the things I like about the Moto Z and go back to Pixel.

I think if you are willing to give up those things on the Moto Z , and are solely focused on camera quality then it is a no brainer to go with the pixel. I have yet to have that Halo on a picture. I had minor Bluetooth issues where it was shutting off my itself but I haven't had that occur since the march update. Funny how different people are...I had the XL and gave it up for the regular size.

It is a difficult decision for sure. I do like the mods...a lot. But Camera is so super important. It isn't that the Z has been bad on the camera. Just those unreliable moments (out of sync video on 60FPS, camera app crashing and losing the video I took) scare me.

And yes, it is funny how some like the larger screens...some like the smaller ones... :)

So to chime in on this as well. I have the Pixel XL 128 GB of storage and have had it for 2 weeks now. I haven't had any BT issues with my phone at all but it has been on the march security patch since I took it out of the box which many have said solved the BT issue. I also haven't had any issues with the camera and a halo effect. The camera is so good on this phone I will use it in a lot of instances instead of taking my Canon 6d Full Frame DSLR with me.

Thanks...that may help in my decision...still need to let go of the good battery life, the fasting charging I've seen and the mods of my Z Force. :)

Oh god no, not with the next generation of phones debuting soon. Wait for the S8s. Or pick up the G6.

I own the Sammy s7, and G20 and I like the Pixel far and above the rest. Just fast and smooth and it has 128 gigs of storage which is a must for me.

I'm going to wait and hold on to my S7 Edge through the summer. I'm guessing by then, we'll know quite a bit more about the Pixel 2. I really hope Google works out the supply chain issues so I don't have to worry about purchasing it on day 1.

Ideally, I'd like to see what deal they would offer at launch. If its not that appealing to me, I'd like to be able to buy one in Jan or Feb. Screw that waiting 4-6 weeks. It's not like they're building Lambos.

Did you get my PM?

Go get it!

You can always wait for a newer and better device, no matter how long you wait there will be always a new better device to arrive soon.

I think the Pixel XL has everything needed, but if you can try it first could be better, maybe you don't need something that powerful, the LG G6 is pretty great too, and the Moto Z Force is wonderful and cheaper.

Agreed on the Moto Z Force Droid is an underrated Gem. Maybe not as snappy as the Pixel (especially on camera) but it doesn't lag and the 21MP camera takes some amazing pictures. Not to mention the mods are actually pretty good.
